Exclamation SHEEP SKIN COVERS

Baaa Baaa Black Sheep

I found a place that makes custom sheep skin seat covers. Someone from a MDX website recommended them, so I checked it out and purchased a pair of "SLATE" colored skins for my Aegean Blue TL-S. They really help out on hot days when wearing shorts. Leather looks great, but I was never crazy about riding around on it.

The place is "Superlamb" in San Diego.

They have many different colors to select from.

If you are interested in them, they are running a 20% discount for folks on the acuramdx website. So be sure to mention that and you can get in on the deal too.

Here are a few pics of my seats

Those look great. What style/size did you get, or does one just mention TL at the time of ordering? THe slate looks good, though I'm tempted to go for the black.

The "SuperVest" is $350 for a pair, but for the internet deal they discount 20% on all merchandise. So.. I paid $280 plus California sales tax.

The seats are custom made. They have templates for different makes and models. They double checked the 2001 TL template with the 2002 TL seats and it matched.

For color selection, I just drove in and they brought out several different colors for me to check out. I think we looked at "SLATE", "STEEL", "CHARCOAL GREY", and "MID GREY".
They said that they typically send out color samples to serious customers so they can match the color correctly.

I'm sure the seat covers also confuse the airbag sensors. If not on the drivers side, definately on the passenger side which is highly sensitive as it is. I'm sure the company selling the seat covers swears this won't happen (which is why they didn't cover the side bolsters), but the only way to know for sure is to have a major front or side collision and see what happens. Not worth the risk IMHO. Wayneg, any thoughts?

there's no reason this should be true. its like saying that if you wear a thick coat or a fur coat in the winter, the sensors will be affected.. they are pressure sensors, so i dont think an extra layer will affect them, unless u happen to be on the very borderline of whatever they consider that critical weight between adult and child to be.

btw, the skins looks awesome.

What I’d like to know is how much “height” these skins add to the seat. At 6’3 my head is a about 2 inches away from the roof of the car. Not much wiggling room left. Anything more than half an inch would create a problem for me I'd think.

That was my first reaction

But after looking them again they look very comfy.

Plus the stiching on our TLS is terrible, I wouldn't be surpised if the stiches start coming apart after 6 months.

Zodiak,

M-B advised dealers to discourage customers from using thick seat coverings on the premise that they can distribute weight horizontally affecting the readings of the weight and position sensors. I don't know how sophisticated Acura's set up is which is why I asked for Wayneg's opinion.

I am sure those seat covers are functional, but they make the car appear low class. It has a pimp mobile affect..I am from Texas and that is what a lot of lower socioec-onomic "brothers" install on their cars..

They look very nice (and a lot less lumpy with the sheep removed), but sheep hide over cow hide seems like overkill - at least to the sheep and cows!!!

Looks a little too caveman to me, and it covers up the perforated sections of the seat which I love the look of.

Whoa, I'm taking a cow licking for this post.

I would have selected cloth seats for my TL-S if it was an option, but it wasn't so I went for the sheep skins and I'm happy with them. I got them for comfort, not style. I also like the fact that the covers will protect the leather seats and help them to last longer.

To answer a few questions ...
The airbag sensors do not seem to be affected by the seat covers. My wife is bit smaller than me and the sensors don't trip while she is sitting on the skins. She does trip the sensor if she leans forward in the seat (with or w/o covers).

Yes, the covers do add height. The pile is almost as tall as a quarter. I did adjust the seats down and back a bit to compensate. I would have prefered a shorter pile.

I do agree that they look a bit tacky, but only a few folks look at the interior. Most folks comment about the exterior looks of the car. Plus it'll even be harder to see them once I get the windows tinted.

Hey! Don't feel bad, everyone is entitled to their opinion - - and that's all it is. I think the covers look great. I contacted the company and they will be sending me some samples so I can match up to my seats. Pricey? I wouldn't feel that I was getting fleeced at all!
