Shaking While Driving

I was driving to work today and all the sudden I hit about 80 mphs and the front end started shaking. The steering wheel was shaking also so Im thinking it has to do with the wheels or the brakes or something in that region. I stopped the car and got out to see what it was didnt see anything. So I get back on the highway and I hit about 80 mphs again it started shaking. Even if I slow down it continues doing this.

Has anyone ever experienced this. I have a 03 with 11.5k miles on it. What do warped rotors look like?

From my experience, the warped rotor issue can come more from shaking while braking than anything...I can tell you grossly abnormal tire pressure can cause shaking, but in my case, it has been bent wheel after bent wheel...Doesn't really matter if they were front or back, one or more, the bent wheels always caused the vibrations and shaking...Don't you have aftermarket wheels???
I'm finally getting rid of mine...
For my $0.02, if I were any of you, I would seriously research the wheel manufacturers for wheels you choose and cerainly re-evaluate the lighter alloys as mine from Vault are now ALL bent to h=ll--and I have already replaced two others in the last 8 months!
I'm getting new wheels today...Ugh...It's only money, right?

If it's shaking while driving... it sounds like you need either the wheels to be re-balanced or an alignment. Neither really costs that much... but is worth it b/c you will ruin your tires should the alignment be off......

One other thing. Check to make sure there is not some caked snow in your wheels. This will do it. (Of course, first there has to be snow!)

There has been plenty off it in the NJ area. I was away for the weekend and my car had snow on it til Tuesday afternoon.

Oblio98 - you could be right. Should I take off the front tires and check it or how could I fix the snow situation. Just wait til it melts. I want to see what happens on the ride home.

Anymore more suggestion just in case the snow is not the problem.

yea on my OEM rims, I had a bubble on the inside of the tire, and a bent rim. It shook like crazy, you might want to check it out. I ended up buyin new rims and tires.

Very good call!!

I had this shaking yesterday on my way into work... but it was gone on the way home b/c the snow that was on my car melted during the day.

This could very well be it. If it does not go away within a day or so.. then check your alignment.....

Snow...Ha ha!
Being that it is 71 degrees here, and it has been since 1989 since we saw a "flake" or two, I never would have come up with that! You guys are killing me!!!

When I was in the Navy, I had this little Subaru with bolt on hubcaps! We used to drive it through giant mud fields along the Mississippi river, pretending to be a 4 wheeler.

One morning after doing so, I headed off to work and the car began to shake violently! I thought the axels were about to break! I took it to the dealer, they removed the hubcaps, and there was caked mud that had settled into a "half-pie" in each wheel. All 4 wheels were spinning out of balance! The guy laughed like hell!

ANyway, snow can do the same thing. Esp when you drive unplowed roads.

Another potential problem related to snow - my
car was shuddering pretty badly recently and it turned out that when I backed out of the garage, I backed into a snow bank (hard not to do with all of it piled up around here) and it ended up plugging one of the exhaust pipes. My baby didn't like that! :yack:

Nick, I did that as well...and yet another thing snow can do is cause you to skid and hit a curb with your front right wheel and cause 1200 bucks of suspension damage!

happen to me once this winter.
i was driving to work in the morning and it was cold that day. about 12 degree or so. The steering started to shake when i hit over 60! i didnt know what it was and when i checked the car, there's nothing seem to be wrong. So during my luch break, i drove it around and it was gone. Later that day when i drove back home, i didnt notice any shaking.
Ever since then, the car is smooth as ever.

If u r running stock tires, that could be it. I had mine balanced twice already, same crap. Maybe the steel belt has deformed inside, especially you park yours most of the time.
