Sell or Keep ???

Hey Guys..I need some input........

I have a 2000 TL w/ 125k miles. Had the Tranny replaced at 110k (covered by dealer).

The gears shifts are a bit hard, but only when I really push it.

I drive 100 miles a day for work purposes.

So the BIG question is...

Should I go ahead and sell/trade this unpredictable piece of crap ??? or keep it until i have to spend $4K to fix the stupid problem.

---

On another note..since I drive sooo much, is it worth getting something like a 05/06 IS or 3series? I'm thinkin the mileage depreciation at about 25-30k miles a year makes its buying an IS or 3series a very unwise decision.

I appreciate any thoughts....
THANKS

Yeah if you can afford to then yeah get a new car. The only reason I don't just jump from car to car is because I can't afford it. But man I still love my TL-S!

get an accord hybrid. Faster than the TL (2nd gen) and better mileage.

I'm thinking of going to the other side and just getting a used/loaded Maxima.

(Before the TL I drove an 89 Maxima...finally sold it with 275k miles...tranny went out on that car around 225k. That was an awesome car.)

Looking around I saw some 04/05's with aorund 30k miles for around $20k.
With around $8k trade in, i think its a pretty good deal.

What do you guys think?

The E-class Diesel is very HOT demand I believe. My cousin tried to get one, and he found out is sold out so he went with new Jetta Diesel. I used to drive Golf Diesel...it's really nice actually, but you know VW is just annoying in terms of electrical craps they put in the car. (engine wise, the diesel is always strong compare to hybrid). IMHO

Just wondering whats the advantage with running a diesel? The deisel fuel did not seem to be much cheaper then regular gas last time I checked. Do they get better mileage?

Oh I could drive up to 450-500 miles be4 I had to refill it again....even not much cheaper on price, you still save more $$ because of the mileage you're getting. Unlike hybrid, I heard u have to drive it in certain way to get those MPG they advertized.

Wow that is more then double what I am getting out of a tank right now! Do they perform about the same as regular gas engines?

I drive 600 miles a week on my TL-S. Can't beat the comfort and 30 plus MPG...if you sell, buy a new Civic but it is almost ALWAYS cheaper to fix than to buy. If you drive all highway, your trans should last a long time...in theory

30mpg

I drive alot of HW miles and I'm not close to 30 mpg...that might be a record on Acurazine.

I would sell the TL and get something with good milage..and Japanese made

What is interesting is that with the orig tires, I was getting 32. Then I got RonJons w/PZero Nero tires (235x40x18) and my milage has dropped by 2 mpg consistently. Not bad for 75 MPH....

Totally off topic, but nice Star Blazers avatar Turbonator. I thought I was the only nerd in the world that remembered watching that show when I was a kid.

If you're driving mostly highway, don't waste your money on a hybrid. The benefit of a hybrid is more for city/stop and go driving.

I vote for the VW Jetta TDI.

i dont know why people overstress so much about gas prices and go to extreme measures like getting a VERY EXPENSIVE hybrid car to "save on gas" when the difference between driving the TL (~18mpg and a SUV(~13mpg) is less than $500-600 a year.

Keep the TL, if you just got the tranny in then it'll live for another few dozen thausand miles/years and by then you'll have the money to get the car you like.

this is what i think and is very realistic...check this out. my dad's MB C32AMG gives like 13mpg and i do ~ 21mpg we fill up about once a week and last year he only spent $430sumtn more than me.

Cause sometimes people have other unexpected expenses and with saving $$ on gas monthly can sooth your feelings really.

huh...
"Very expensive" hybrids are not that expensive at all... Fathers 06' Prius ran him high 23K. The new Camry hybrid will run about 29K and Accord around 32-33K

Now he is currently getting 49mpg while my TL is averaging about 21mpg with a lot of hwy miles...
I don't know why ur comparing mpg of SUVs and MB AMGs to the TL when you were talking about hybrids ??

He said he was driving 100 miles a day.. 100 = alot of gas stops= alot of money... Now if your car got 49mpg would it be worth it to you now?

By the way the Prius is a very nice car inside with superb fit and finish...not crazy about the outside though

I just figure out that based on a car getting 49mpg compared to a TL with 21 mpg of mid grade gas
you would save 2,166.00 a year and thats not including weekends...thats base only on 500 miles a week...so add it up maybe around 3Ka year...not bad
just wait till oil hits $100 a barrel...

Hybrid or diesel... here I come..

Go for a diesel. My friend had a VW golf TDI and he got like 50 mpg with that thing.

Believe me I miss my Golf TDi big time on saving money on gas. However, I must admit that I need a bigger car (even bigger than Jetta) and the reliability issues had forced me to choose TL. hehehehe
I think I'd pick Diesel over Hybrid, cause the fact that hybrid is such a new technology which diesel has been known since when? world war 1 or 2??? even aeroplanes are using diesel I believe.
I wished honda bring the TSX-CDTi....I would definately buy that.

new car

thanks guys...when i got the tranny replaced my original idea was to keep the car.

I just hate the fact that i'm gonna have to dump 4k into it at some point. It REALLY bugs me.

I love driving this car, but i think i'm gonna do some car shopping and see if I find anything worthwhile.

I'd do the hybrid accord thing, but I still feel as if that they havent been tested long enough and if u go by some past C&D editorials, they will convince u not to get one...and the jetta-diesal seems to small.

Anybody interested in buying a well maintained 2000 TL with 126k? Has a 10 disk Sony MP3 cd changer in trunk...nice blue lcd display mounted under am/fm butttons.
