Should i sell my TL?

heres the deal

my 2000 TL has 95k on it....im really really sketchy about the transmissions on these things....if i get stuck with a 5k bill im going to be in serious trouble

the transmission was fixed, not replaced at 93k, and it has a new 12k warranty so i have untill 105k to decide whether i want to keep the car or sell it

i love my TL so much, but this tranny bullshit is just to bad...its like skating on thin ice with 5k in your hand

what do you guys think i should do...what are my options...if i should sell it i wanna sell it soon before it hits 100k, which it will in a matter of months cus i put alotta miles on my cars

at 5k to replace the tranny i would give serious consideration to replacing the car, considering the actual value of the car and the fact that even if you invested the 5k extra theres no guarantee that it wont happen again.

i made up my mind when i purchased the car 2m ago that once i hit 95k i would sell the car no matter how much i love it. i currrently have 68k but i dont drive much so it could easily take me 3-4 yrs to get there.

What do you mean it was fixed and not replaced? What was wrong with it? If it has a 12k warranty, keep the car for another 10 months or so, then get rid of it.

That's what I'd do also. I wouldn't want to give myself grief thinking that my tranny is going to fail after 105k miles. A car is supposed to be enjoyed, not worried over for a tranny replacement or waiting for something to take a huge crap. If you sell the TL, what other cars do you have in mind?

It's 7 year and 100000 mile warranty. So doesn't matter how much you drive, once it's past 7 years, you wont have any warranty

i can probably sell the TL for around 11.5k right now....if i wait till 105k it might go down a bit

i really dont know what my new car budget is.....i'll probably spend around however much i sell the TL for.....i really have no idea what to get....integra GSR, RSX, or a legend GS are on my mind

FUCK ACURA FOR THESE TRANSMISSIONS

what is the bulletproof tranny option? how much would it cost to buy a non acura transmission

it seems like this transmission thing is a huge money making ploy for acura/honda.....in about 3 or 4 years when every TL is over 100k, think how much money they are gonna be making installing new transmissions....someone needs to take this to court or someshit

Do your homework and find out what your car is worth. Sell it privately because you'll get more than if you traded in. I had a 00 TL with just a tick over 100k and traded it in for a 05 MDX. At the most the dealer was willing to give me was $8500. I was stupid and took it because I wanted the MDX so bad. If I were to do it over and was more patient, I'd have sold it myself and gotten at least 12K.

Because of experiences like this, I will never trade a car in to a dealer. In fact my WHOLE family has converted to using a wholesaler for buying our cars. The best part about it, other than saving money and not dealing with crappy salesmen, is taking the car in for warranty work with a huge grin on your face knowing that they have to fix your crap and you didin't even get the car there.

I would sell it. I'm absolutely going to sell my 2001 TL before the tranny warranty expires.

Hey, I didn't know it was 7 years or 100k miles--is that true? (Mine only has 38k on it, but it's almost 5 years old).

A couple of months ago, I took my gf's 00 TL-P to Acura for the oil jet recall. I asked them about the extended warranty and the service manager said it's 7 years/150,000 miles. I asked him was he sure because I thought it was 7 years/100,000 miles. But he insisted it was 150,000 miles. This was at Acura of Serramonte. I was thinking of calling Acura client services to make sure but forgot about it.

I just got my transmission inspected and the oil jet fix yesterday. I'm feeling better about this transmission thing. Unless people start posting on here that they get the fix and still have failing transmissions, I'm probably gonna keep mine past 100K.

I wonder if the TL can use the CL 6 speed tranny. Anyone ever heard of a 6 speed conversion on these cars? I would think it could be done.

Your bubble is busted 2x. My car has its 3rd tranny now at 88k miles. the failure is the 3rd gear assembly. Nothing about the silly 2nd gear lube bypass thing is going to help. Anyway my car had the 2nd gear lube bypass tube so that ought to say something...

*f* Honda! So, is there any wonder why these cars aren't holding their value? Thank goodness there's a sucker born every second. I guess I can sell it to someone who is unaware of the problem.

This is my first Honda product after owning many other brands with mixed reliablity issues. My 1993 5.0L Mustang has been reliable. I was hoping the TL-S would be another one of those cars I kept for over 10 years.

I'm in the same exact same situation w/ 95k miles, my tranny replaced at 92k miles. So far no problems w/ the new tranny. I'm gonna sell my TL b4 it hit 100k miles, and thats for a sure thing. It's not worth the trouble even if its under warranty. Personally I'd get rid of it ASAP!! Just my 2 cents.

damn count me in also, lol im in the same situation, i got 91k miles right now, on my 99. The biggest thing i was wondering is, does acura offer extended warranty past 100k miles? If it does, i'll get that and keep my car, otherwise im gonna have to also sell it, this sucks ass, i dont really want some other car, i would probably upgrade to a type s with lower miles. this sucks!

Hey Man..I"m in the SAME Exact Boat you're in...mine went out at 110, they replaced for free.

BUT Now, i'm at 126 and I'm really hating this feeling that its not going to last much longer.

I'd like to sell privately, but i'd hate to sell it to some poor SAP and the damn thing craps out on him.

I'd rather trade it to the dealer and let them have the headache of reselling it.
