So i did an awful lot of research, and after seeing pictures upon pictures, i seafoamed my gas tank, and what i believe is my vacuum line. The engine oil ill do soon. Anywho, the Problem is i barely saw any white smoke come out of my exhaust. So i wonder if i really did it right or if the seafoam is lingering somewhere in the twilight zone. Its kinda hard to believe that a 2003 car with the miles i have has no carbon build up. Help anyone? :/

 

Immediately after sucking in the seafoam did you shut the car off and let it sit for 10 min? How much did you draw into the engine?

 

the correct vac line is under the plastic engine cover, then find the little finger size hose going to TB to manifold connection, its the only one with squeeze type hose clamp,
remove it and a metal nipple is exposed = master vac port for seafoam intake

smoke is not proof of carbon removal!!!!!!!!!!!!
its the oils that make up seafoam reacting the HEAT in the cat convertor = smoke!!!
I can make any car belch clouds regardless of internal cleanliness

BEST MEETHOD FOR NOOBS and regular non mechanical people
use 1 can in just under half tank/8 gallons gas, drive out that tank
on next tank when down to half add 1 can seafoam
you are done! except cleaning TB air plate, no seafoam method reaches it without removing air inlet snorkel

the twice in the tank gets more things cleaner and gets it for sure- just takes a few weeks. It gets places the vac port never sees

 

did you read the diy- seafoam for 03s ?

there is no reason you have to do vac port method, easy to do wrong and can really screw things up

 

How many miles are on you car? Your car might have not any issues with carbon build up. Normal maintenance is to pour a bottle in the gas tank when empty and fill it up.


When doing an oil change pour a half a bottle in the crank case and drive for a minimum of 30 miles before changing oil. Remove oil filter first and then drain the oil. Wipe down oil filter housing and any residual that might have dropped. Put a little oil on the rubber gasket of the oil filter and fill the oil filter almost all the way before installing.


Note: Car takes 4.7 qts of oil, check the oil level when done and make sure it is in middle of the dip stick.

 

Well i tried the metal nipple vac method,i also put seafoam in my gas tank. I never let it sit for 10 mins off though. And thanks guys, ill make sure to ask around first before i do something else that is a little more advanced. Dnt wanna get set on fire or anything

 

And as for the miles, my tl has 160000 miles approximately

 

twice thru the gas tank is the way to go for you

as for nicks methods I must disagree, cleaning dose in fuel is 2 oz per gal fuel = 1 can to 8 gal or just under half tank (capacity 17.some gal)
midyear a maintenance does is 1 to 1 or a can to 1 gallon under full tank
that's not considering the effects of ethanol which leaves behind more crud, so a full can in half tank midyear-at oil change time is prudent

for first time in oil- install a new cheap filter so it can catch all the crud about to be let loose. add 1/2 can to oil and drive up to 200 miles, some use of vtec allows cleaner to get those critical oil controlled areas, drives over 30 minutes really help it work its best for your money

on draining- warm with 10-15 minute drive so crud in the pan is liquefied and will easily drain

On new filter, do prefill it enough to soak into the filter material, that makes for quick oil pressure to engine on startup. too much in filter and it spills out when out when turned to install.
do use NEW oil on new filters seal ring- a viscous seal works better and is easy to remove at next change

 

vac port method requires proper preheating drive- then the cooking/soaking time of 10-15 minutes MAX, then the correct after-drive to generate HEAT

vac method is really for techs who need to de-carbon a car that continues running after key shutoff, a throwback to the 60s
