scratches from turtle wax?
I was using that stuff yesterday and noticed the dried up turtle wax was making semi deep scratches. I am soo mad. I know you guys said the touch up paint from acura sucked, but the scratches arent deep at all...just a little deeper than the swirvel marks from buffing the car. I was thinking maybe i could put some of that touch up paint on a rag and just buff the paint the touch up paint on. I dont know if this makes sense..but thoughts would be good.

STOP...TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF THE TL...MOVE AWAY SLOWLY
Go to the autoparts store and buy Meguires swirl remover.
DO NOT "put some of that touch up paint on a rag and just buff the paint the touch up paint on."

Alright, I going to attempt to explain how to apply touch up paint fellas, take note: 1.Use some kind of wax or compound to take away any flakes of paint away from the paint.
2.Make sure the area is free from dust and possible wind(garage is an ideal place).
3.Shake the touch up paint from the dealer in your hand for close to 45 seconds, shake it vigorously like youre chokin your chicken.
4.Get a pallet, like a piece of tile or marble will do, and pour the touch up paint on the pallet and stir the paint with the brush that is given.
5.If the scratch is a fine line what I like to do is get an artist's brush, very small and take time to get it looking right...
6.Deep scratches require that you apply in coats, so wait like 15-20 min. to apply over again.
7.When you are finished painting, and the area has dried, take some quality wax(Zymol) and go over the area again.
If you follow my steps you shouldn't have any problems with future scratches...

Shyne, you made some very good points, HOWEVER you missed one extremely crucial piece. Whatever you do, DO NOT put wax over an area you intend to paint. It will not bond properly and will cause all kinds of problems. Use a product that will remove grease and wax, I use PrepClean. If you have to, get some Dawn dish washing liquid, thanks Sal Zaino, and wash down and dry the area fully. Then you can apply the touch-up paint.
I highly recommend using the point of a toothpick to apply paint. It works extremely well and is stiff enough to be sure the paint goes where you want it. Do many coats, not one big blob, although Langka would beg to differ.

You can't be serious. What will happen is the touch up paint will smear on the car, then will be absorbed into the rag. Your end result will be the same. Look into some GOOD name brand wax and cleaner. My guess is that your rag was contaminated with dust or the rag was too coarse and scratchy.

DON'T USE TURTLE WAX !!!!
Their products have harsh abrasive which in the long run will ruin your car's finish.
Meguiars makes good products. Use the swirl remover to buff out the deep scratches, then once it's hardly noticable, use a fine polish that'll get that paint glossy and mirror-like. Then top it off with the carnauba wax for protection.

Here's a great website on how to detail a car. Go under detailing tips and it will tell you what the best techniques are. I have read every single one and I must say that I will look at car detailing in a completely different manner.

Pep Boys will definitely sell it. Just work slowly, don't rub real hard. I've found that if you follow the lines of the car, it works best, side to side on the doors, front to back on the hood, roof....

Turtle Wax SUX!! Might as well salt or something like that..
I know alot of folks like that other crap that Turtle Wax makes -- the soap with the wax built in.. worst stuff in the world.. It leaves a nasty residue that turns really white in the sun.. None of that shi it is going near my TL...
Oh and when you are waxing, make sure to use the correct applicator that is in good condition.
Meguires all the way for my baby!!
