sc vs turbo

OK so i finally know the difference between a sc and turbo, but I've only seen and heard turbo charged cars. I love that hissing of the turbo, and wondering if a sc makes the same sound?

actually sc dont have the same sound as turbo..turbo has more of the rushing air sucking sound, as teh sc is more of a mechanical whine....plus the turbo has a nice blow off valve sound...

yes sc is supposedly quieter and more of a mechanical sound rather than the hissing sound of turbo. remember that turbo is exhuast driven.

actually there are quite a bit sc cars out there. there are several sc gs4 around and i have seen a 500hp sc m3 around here

You didn't mention that you were considering installing one or the other. If you are, my opinion is the turbo is more risky for the Auto Tranny Group.

Turbos usually create more engine heat than a SC moded engine and we all know that heat is a factor in tranny failures and even shorten engine life. That's partly why Acura changed the 2003 engines to have better heat disapation through the new ribbed block and cylinder sleeves that were added.

FWIW

Nothing better than hearing a Ball Bearing Turbo slow after you shut off your car.

that loud hissing or more like pssscchhhh sound (if that is what rayman009 is referring to) is from the blow off valve. not all turbos have them, and if i'm not mistaken, superchargers can utilize them as well as they serve the purpose of relieving the unused air pressure.

No need to offend anyone, but that M3 Is not that good looking at ALL.. The new ones are nice but the old ones arent that nice at all.. The TL's look better than that M3, That M3 Is too OOGLY to deserve a 500 HP SUPERCHARGER..

i agree with you, the prev gen m3 isn't that good looking at all imho (well back then it looked good). the new one is very very good though.

that's why i said this is a sleeper. if you try to take this m3 in the tls, good luck

no, I don't think SC is better than... Turbo... but it depends on what you are looking for after all...

The difference that I driver will notice is that a SC engine is smoother... because the engine output at an given throttle is constant...

With turbo, if you WOT, you will reach max boost ealier, and therefore have a different output level VS when it's 1/3 of throttle, (this is at lower rpm where it happens)

SC because it's driven by the pulley, so the response is linear but it takes power from the engine to drive that SC...

Although Turbo uses the wasted exthust as energy source, it does create more back pressure...

Each system have it's pro and con. I like the flexibility of the Turbo, but that is because when I get to know the car, I know exact what I will get out of it...

yup very true, with turbo the "chok" on the car when it kicks in is quite something. whereas sc it's linear
