I have tried the right side of the car, like some people have it, next to the headunit, but the holder isnt big enough to where it will sit correctly. I dont wanna do the cup holder cuz i use it. i dont mind the left side of the windshield but it can get in the way after some time. i have looked at picks. I noticed one person has it in his sunglass holder. Well for a person who had Best buy install it, could someone help me out in how to get it there with out paying the $150. thanks

My ? Get rid of that ugly Starmate. The smaller Starbase is a much better fit for that dash. I'm planning on using the XM Commander on my TL in about a week. I want to flush it in the dash right above the stereo. I don't have nav so it should look tits. When customers ask me to install the Sat. Radio displays above their dash, I usaully refuse the install. I think it looks tacky and I don't want my name on it. I just hope that they used the AUX-IN adapter on your TL.

I put an older Sirius display up in the sunglass holder on a customers' car. But it had problems flipping around. The customer didn't mind but I would have liked to move it somewhere else.

well when they said they cant put it in the sunglass holder they said it was b/c the power cord wasnt long enough and they wasnted to charge me 150 bucks. so i went home with it on the windshield. So, this morning i sat in my car and thought. Then i went under the steering wheel where they had all the excess wire bundled up. to make a long story shot, i was able to pull out enough power wire cord and attena cord to pull it through the driverside windsheild pillar and over to the sunglass holder. it looks so much better there. I hate best buy and those f ing lyars. they just wanted more money. I got it to the sunglass holder and it looks tite. I would take pics but the camera is at home and im currently not there.

Speaking of satellite (thread hijack time)...

Many moons ago I posted my DIY install of XM with pics...my only claim to fame on the then a-tl.com

Well, here we are almost 4 years later. Time for an upgrade. How the heck do you get the antenna wire through the rear window glass? Does the stripping just pull up and you shove it under the glass?

I think it might be easier to just drill a hole in the roof, shove a grommet in there and then seal it with silicon...hiding that under the antenna cover, of course.

the wire for my antenna was able to slide under the Very small but rubber seal (there is a very small seal that is between the glass and the car body)around the rear window. then once down around you can run it under the rubber trunk seal or drill a hole in that area

If I were to run any wires through the window seal I would be fired. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There are much better places to get the antenna lead into the car.

I have Sirius, from Best Buy and they installed the antennae exactly the way you described it, through the window seal. That was also my first and last time I deal with Best Buy with any installs on my whip.

You dont run them tru it You hided the wire under it (the trim piece that goes around the window) It doesnt seal the window at all, it just is a small rubber piece that fills in the gap.

If I ever do get a Satellite Radio I would find one that would fit in the ash try holder or the comparetment below it.

I dont like it sticking out, I dont like the non-oem feeling.

I had a kenwood FM mod unit display that was small enough and would be perfect there or the sunglass holder.

no issues. Yes it gets hot, but wouldnt anything like that if it did not have good ventilation. No problems though with the overheating factor.

Nope, I have no overheating problems. Everything is perfect, the holder even opens and closes smoothly, it doesn't get stuck. I have heard some others that have done it, their holder gets stuck when they try to open it. The unit and the back of sunglass holder gets a little warm but the person at the shop that put it in says, people usually use the mount to put it on the windshield and that gets more heat from the sun on really hot days. So we agreed it be much better in the sunglass holder because it would be shaded all the time.
