Post S2000 or Toyota Supra ?

Just got through reading an article in this months issue of SCC, The Twin Turbo Effect. Its about a 98 TT Supra. Man I have always loved these cars. So being that the 97-98 Supra's and the new S2000 are about the same price, which one would you buy ?

** I know this being a Acura/Honda site the answers will be alittle bias, but I still would like to see what you all think ?

I vote supra but really, I'd look deep in myself to see if I can deal with a used supra considering the previous owner must have mashed that pedal to the metal quite a few times. other than that, or if I knew the owner, or if it's 'certified pre owned', there's probably a good chance I'd get the supra. In my opinion, that car just demands attention Furthermore, its out of production so u'll be that much more special However, because its out of production, where are u gonna get parts? ^^;
Anyway, good luck.

Depends on your driving preference...........if you want nasty power, get the Supra. If you're gonna be like me and just do some minor bolt ons and cruise, get the S2000.....

I would definitely go for the Supra!
I have wanted one of those for a while but the prices were always too much and the cars always looked like they were beaten. If you can find a nice one (probably not as hard in Florida) I'd say GopherIt!

Plus, did you see the video Merlyn posted in OT a couple days ago? It is SICK!!!!!

A MKIV Supra TURBO (93-98) is probably the baddest ass sports car ever made. I was shopping for one a couple of years ago, but found out that 1. they are very hard to find and 2. the ones you do find that have not been modded and are in good condition go for over $30K. $30K for a used sports car is a tough sale.
If you can find a good one at a price you like, go for it, you will not be dissapointed. But make sure it's 6spd, turbo and has not been modded.

over here where i live barely supras around but its a die hard fan type of thing, yet the s2000, doesnt have that feel what a supra feels(cant compare)
pick a supra any day plus some mods and you got yourself one true dragger.... www.mkiv.com (probaly everyone knows this) lots faq, videos, pics, their must be another tim in there and its a forum just like this one.

Given a choice between a new Supra and a new S2000, I believe I would have chosen the TT Supra, but not by a very wide margin. The Supra is a brute (Bowie Knife) while the S2000 is a surgical scalpel....2 totally different animals. The Supra has a lot of power all through the powerband while the S2000 is a car that needs a lot of work to extract the maximum out of it.....but once you learn the steps, the S2000 is very rewarding...

But since I distrust used high performance cars, I would go with the S2000 especially if it is new....

just my 2c

I think you can pimp mo hoez with a S2K.... But if you want something that can whoop AZZZZ... get a supra. Supra motors are crazy... Upgrade the turbo, downpipe, and get a boost controller and you got over 400HP easily....

Though the S2000 is a really nice car. Those Supra Tail lights put it over the top. Plus the TT Supra is just bad ass.

I think if you want something interesting, because of the 9000 rpm range, go S2k.

But if you are absolutely insane and want a 9 or 10 second car, get a supra.

I'd get the supra.

Man, I even tried to buy a Supra TT back in 1998 b4 I bought my Legend, but the loan didn't go thru, so I had to settle for a used Legend. I'd get a Supra over the S2K anyday.

There's a green Supra TT in my building, some guy that works at Sir Speedy owns it. It's nice as hell and it's not modded at all.

Definitely go with the Supra!! Here's my '94 Twin Turbo that I sold a few months ago. The car was SOOOOOO fast!!

By the way, if any body thought the wheels look funny in the top pic, it's because they are photoshopped. I didn't have the chrome wheels and wanted to see what they looked like on mine. I don't have the original pic on this computer to post.

Wow, most ppl seem to prefer the supra. I'd get a new S2000 over a used Supra any day! With all the $ I'd save from driving the 4 banger, I'd mod it to the max!

Depends where you will be driving the car

Drag strip - Supra

Track/autoX - S2000

If you wanna go crazy on the highway, or street racing - Supra

If you want to relax, and enjoy a droptop then S2000

It all depends on what you need man...

I would get the supra because I know what it is capable of.

Yeah, yeah, you know that's you over there doing the filming Ken!! We need to throw that video up on here sometime, then I KNOW everyone would be saying "I want the SUPRA!!!" By the way, forgot to tell you yesterday, hit 105 in the ZR-1 yesterday...not really that fast in that car, but hey, it got there in about 7 seconds and I was only in 2nd gear!! Plus I had just passed a cop and didn't really feel like getting pulled...you know how that goes!!

No, the ZR-1 is one of my boss's cars. I just get to drive it occasionally. It's fast, but really not that much more powerful than the Supra. I outran a guy in a Corvette with a performance chip fairly easily with my stock Supra. I never did run it against the ZR-1 though. The only reason I sold the Supra is $$$. I had to go to school and didn't have enough free time to work to keep the car. I'll get another one someday though

lose some weight then. being fat also slows down your times because of the added weight.

Went to the mkiv site and saw the Supra color choices.
That Royal Saphire Pearl looks like an interesting color, I don't think I have seen that in person.

Have any of you ?

Blue is my fav color. With most cars, I will go with the blue. However I have never seen a blue Supra before, tones red, white, black, silver but blue. So I guess that color is not available here? Remember that it's the color selection that they have in Japan...

there is a guy who works at a local car shop that has a 94 supra with the greddy t88 turbo........that car is badass. it has every mod that could be possibly done. the guy is trying to sell it for $50k. seems a little steep to me for a car that has probably had the crap beat out of it and has 70k miles. it is a sweet car, 700hp, 1/4's in the low 10's.

If I were buying any type of used sports car, I'd make sure the owner was a 60 or 70 year old who didn't beat it up and the car is completely stock.

Drool, RSP is the most wanted supra color and imo the best color. It is GORGEOUS in real life. Too bad you'll definately pay a premium for the RSP and Silver.

To the original question, for less than $1g, you could dip into the 11s with a supra(Ive seen 11.8 on street tires once with these mods).

If you were a serious autox I would get the S2000 (unless you looked at the RX7, which is also a great car with some good power).

On a road course, the supras power comes in handy, especially on sweepers and straights.

For Drag racing, of course the supra.

Here's a good pic of a Royal Sapphire Supra. I've seen one around my area before (not the one in the pic) and it is definitely one of the best colors. I also like the Emerald Green color. It's really light and from some angles it almost appears to be blue.

I completely agree....additionally, very few 60 or 70 year olds would go for something like the Twin Turbo Supra.... even if they were to buy it, it would be their Grandchildren who would be driving and beating the crap out of it.

Also, when somebody modifies a car like the Supra, invariably before selling it, they would remove all the mods and replace the stock components back on....which can fool even a trained eye into thinking that the car is virgin....in my opinion, I would steer clear of such used high performance sports cars....if it is being purchased "brand-new", then it is a different matter...

just my 2c

Snook if you were to get a supercharger for the S2000, that would be a different story, as far as im concerned, the stock S2000 has very similar times as the Supra TT, Of course it is much more easy to get alot of power out of the Supra TT, but I highly doubt you will be modifying the car to become a weekend drag racer, you probably want to floss it on the streets also, so get the freakin 2002 S2000 with the glass back, and then just get the comptech supercharger...that is MORE than enough power, plus you dont have to worry about abused and neglected high performance cars. BTW I rode in Socal28's S2000 this weekend, and that thing is niceeeeee, gonna get me one of those in the future, has alot of potential...Dont get me wrong, I LOVE the Supra TT's also, but I just hate buying used cars...
