S2000 headlight bulbs in my TL.

I love the way the s2000 light bulb looks when on. can it be interchanged with our headlight bulb. w/keeping our ballasts.?
has anyone tried this? whatb size of bulb does the s2000 use and what size is ours? maybe this might work? what do you think?

Evan

I thought S2000 HIDs were D2S not D2R. If that is correct than they wouldn't be interchangable.

i think the biggest difference is the housing though...it's a projector as opposed to our reflector types. i don't think changing the bulbs will give that much of a difference.

one of the main reasons they look different is because the s2k uses projector and we don't.

I'm pretty sure the bulbs would fit. D2s & D2R both plug into the same ballast. They still wouldnt sparkle in a TL though. The headlight housing produces that effect, not the bulb. All the cars that sparkle have projector headlights (it looks like a little magnifying glass). Honda S2000, BMW X5, Audi A6...

I'm guessing that the bulbs will probably fit (socket wise)! But, I think, the bulbs are different type. One is made for projector housing and the other is made for reflector type. Something to do with what kind of light pattern the bulb produces.

hold up guys,

i know that projector is only a magnified beam,
it has nothing to do with the color that is,
maybe the color could change, to a bluish tint rather than our purplish hue,
but for 200 each and not even a pair,
hmm $400 for a bluish look,
seems like a "rich" rice boy toy to me

actually the projectors with some coating are what gives the colors j83, look at the audi's and vw's taht don't even have HID they still give diff colors at angles, remember the jetta fog lights they give diff color too.

if we could get projectors for our lamps then we would have the same coloring as well.

Putting a projector bulb in a reflector housing (or vice versa) will cause more harm than good because it will ruin the light dispersion pattern, making your HID less effective at lighting up the road. Safety first!

The purplish tint you see on some cars are what's called the "throwaway light" component of the HID. Automotive HID bulbs have a prominent blue band in its otherwise white spectrum. This blue component can be seen better when the light is attenuated (like when you're not looking straight into the bulb but into a weak reflection). It has nothing to do with the bulb type and more to do with the design of the housing.

By the way, these bulbs cost hundreds of dollars each because they will easily last ten years with normal use. Compare that to $20 halogens which last a year or so and you'll see what you're buying.

has anyone ever noticed that our headlights shoot out a little yellow? if you look closely at the ground on the sides of the beams you'll notice it

projector headlights give you a prism effect changing bulbs will not do anything D2R is the same as D2S except D2R has a black stipe on the bulb to prevent glare.

they are reflector.

you can tell projectors or reflectors just by looking at them. projectors are round and look like a "lense" (like a contact lens).
