Rusty wing mirrors

OK this is the first time I have ever had something like this happen to my car....the actual mirror portion of my driver side wing mirror has several small rust spots, when I say small I mean varying from 1/16th-1/8th of an inch. I would like to be able to remove bust not sure what to use. I tried just washing/rubbing but to no avail. Obviously I don't want to use anything too harsh as I would still ike to be able to see using the mirror. Does anyone have any suggestions?

That's strange. Sounds like it's the silver backing that's rusting, if you can't wash them off from the front. Probably need to pull the mirror out to get at them. If they are close enough to the edge maybe you could adjust it to the farthest point and get in there with a toothbrush or something.

You might also try taking the car to a windshield repair place. Most of them can handle things like this.

try a glass/plastic polis (found in many auto parts stores for windshields and plastic headlights. Meguiars makes a great product. that may take the surface spots off

thanks for the responses guys . out of curiosity I checked to see if it was actually on the outer layer of the mirror, which it is. I will try all your suggestions in order; from cheapest to costliest .
