Roaring sound??

We just bought a new 1999 3.2 TL. Great looking car and hardly any ever used (about 70,000km). Anyhow, I took it out for a spin after we got it from the dealer. The transition from gear to gear is silk smooth, but my only concern is when I press the pedal to accelerate from start, I hear a roaring noise and a sudden jerk of power as I reach my normal driving speed. Is roaring of the engine normal on the 2nd Gen TL cars?

well if you push the gas hard enough, you will enter into VTEC's world. This is used in Honda engines to output more power at higher end. What I would do to make sure is keep an eye on the RPM's gauge. If you're hearing this "roaring" sound before you hit 4000RPM, then get it checked out, if it's occurring past 4000RPM, then it's VTEC. Don't worry, it's totally normal for this sound to come on. That's the beauty of our TL's, they sound so damn sweet, even when they're pure stock.

Enjoy.
