off set is how your wheel sits, how far in or out it sits. has nothing to do with your tires.
the thing to look for is most importantly, wheel circumference. 16, 17. 18 inch etc.
then there's the width, wheel width is measured in inches, 6, 7, 7.5 etc
tire width im pretty sure is measured in milimeters, 195, 205, 215 etc.
just bring your wheels to a discount tire or something and they can work it out for you.
it's pretty basic stuff tho

It usually doesnt cause a problem. like razzi says, offset has nothing to do with tires. if your rims are 17, then any 17 inch tire should fit on it. if your tires are brand new, even better. I have some pretty bad camber wear, so what i had les schwabs in davis do was cross mount and rotate my tires for me. what they did was flip my tires over and remounted it on the other tire so the outside of the tires wear out.
