Reverse glow gauges!

Hey I finally got my reverse glow gauges from procarparts off ebay. I followed the DIY from hzm82 and here's the link. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...luster+removal
It was pretty easy to do but you better believe I was scared when I was putting the gauges around the needle. After I was done I went to fill my gas tank up and rode around checking everything. I have the pioneer that tells you how fast your going so I compared that. Everything works. Damn.. I feel like I accomplished something lol Almost forgot a pic of it.

I find those gauges ugly, no offence.
I like the stock gauges with LED lights, I think it looks better and more classy.

here are the group buy gauges -- straight outta that old school (sold them a few weeks ago)

these allow you to change the back color of the gauges -- to the indiglo that is shown from the ebay ones to a very nice blue. the GB gauges do not have light in the middle. i have pictures, somwhere...

I had them for a while and they worked and looked nice. My only probelm was they kept coming up from the factory gauge and made my needles stick. Sometimes it was the speed, other times the gas, and once and a while it was the tach.

After taking it apart numerous times and even using super glue to hold them down I got sick of the hassle and got some TL S gauges and called it a day. I think I might have found replacement LED bulbs in various colors that will be direct drop in for the cluster. I have to check w/ a friend of mine in the next few days. When I know I'll make a general post for everyone. Should be much easier to mod the dash for those of us who don't know how to wire LEDS...

What kind of ballast does it use? Do you have the tech specs?

Part of that was just the camera. But with these you could adjust infinitely with them. You could dim them if you needed.

Has any one tried making just a small cut to the lead to the center ring so that it doesnt light up with this type??

I have no idea, there is no info on the ballast. I tried buying different types of glo gauges to see if i could use their ballast and they werea ll a no go

Do you know the type of bulbs? Building a ballast is easy...the pain in the neck part is getting the windings correct in the high voltage transformer. Just need to know the operating voltage and the striking voltage.

If you can get the thing open, you could repair that ballast.

Bulbs there are no bulbs. Its the indaglo gauges. All i know is there is no writing or any thing on the ballast.

Ahhhh I see. That makes it even easier. It requires no current limiting.

Put 100-200 volts on it with a safety of like 5-10mA and see if it lights up

None of the ballasts i tried will work. They are all 4 wire. The ones i have are 5 wire (for the controller) these gauges have alot of control over them. the whole thing is completely adjustable (as seen by the pics)

If you can find the right pair of wires, stick a variac on it and raise the voltage until they light up. Then you can build your own ballast.

The ones from procarparts have red on the tach the "jdm" brand ones don't as seen in the pic.

Yea me and mechanical are good buddies. Me and electrical arent so good. Im not afraid to try stuff, and i have a limited knowledge of some things and can do some stuff, but when it comes to resistors and stuff i still havent fingered that stuff out yet

I'm surprised the company doesn't let you purchase a new ballast...cut the wires, crimp on some butt connectors to the new ballast, seal with electrical tape.

the ones in that pic are not from procarparts. Go to ebay and check it out you'll see the difference. Lokee said he got his from procarparts whicb is the same ones I have. The bottom fuel gage line is red, the top temp gage line is red, and in this pic of the spec racing one its not like that.

I'm not trying to prove anybody wrong, but if you were to order these I wouldn't want you to be dissapointed when you received something you didn't want.

Okay here they are. When I was on Ebay I didn't like the one set they had. I didnt really wanna test it. So i got the ones from procarparts. The other ones didnt really show a good pic so i just paid more for the ones from procarparts.
