"Required Maintenace" blinking light

I only bought the car less than two months ago with 53800 miles. Now I have 54500 and today for the first time I noticed a small yeallow light on the instrument panel that says " required maintenance", bliking few seconds when I start up the car. Is this just a schelude maintenance reminder or am I in for my first trouble? I have a similar maintenance light on my Volvo and it come on for few minutes when I start the car. On the Volvo is programmed to turn on every 5K miles and it appears that only the Volvo dealer can reset it. Is it the same for the Acura? and if so, can I turn it off on my own or can a regular Acura/Honda shop do it?

TIA

Peter

its an oil change reminder - thats all- totally based on mileage since reset
No kidding:
stick left hand thru steering wheel-- and push both trip buttons and hold in.
With right hand- turn key to ON but not to start
Light will blink several times then stop
Turn key off
DONE

IN 6000 miles it will start blinking again- getting more insistant as it approaches 7500
here is the free owner manual link for some other TL special tips like the seat heaters use and driving tips for use of SS mode on trans.
https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp
click 2000 then TL, a pdf file opens- use the index to get to any page

register your car with acura at 1-800-382-2238 x5, tell them new owner and ask for a recall check and any extended warranties you need to know about like the SRS sensors (airbag system) or seat bel latches, and the trans warranty, if your cars was ever replaced- and especially if the recall for the trans oil kit was performed
then register with their online system too- can learn a lot about your car there
Need VIN number for both of those places
http://owners.acura.com/registration...erstepone.aspx

Make sure you have the radio and nav (if equipped) security codes- the radio is 5 digit and must be entered whenever you remove battery cable- power to the radio
Security built into it

Do a brake fluid change now- and once a year forever~

Welcome to the forum- read the thread titles list to see what probs to watch for and some upgrades to make
When ready to do the front brakes, we can make the TL a stopping machine for relativly cheap with calipers used on the old acura Legend- a much better 2 piston unit
Many how done the swap and no one is unhappy- 75 dollars per side!~

first mod I would do- a Cusco brand lower frame brace from MrHeelToe, about 85 bucks
goes across the frame right where it goes into a wide cradle for the engine
Makes the car respond much faster in lane changes and helps every other suspension upgrade you will ever do

Again welcome- some of us a car crazy acura specialist- we have acura techs and service writers who answer questions when needed too..
if you see some people poking fun at another- its all in good fun- some of us hang out in real life or have met at an acurazine meet- and we kid each other.
Enjoy your TL

if your SRS light came on and stayed on- its possible to reset BUT you may have an actual issue with a sensor
Many who do the reset--- find themselves at the dealer a month later getting free loaner car!
Acura - gen2 TL- has a special 10 year 150,000 mile warranty on the SRS!!
call and get an appt ASAP- no SRS= no airbag protection
according to acura workers on here- 99.99% time, the needed part will be covered by warranty on the SRS

Credit to the true teacher:
I read about the oil light procedure in the owner book but fsstyms1 told me the thru the wheel trick~

Note: if you get confused on when the key is on and when the buttons are pushed- you can end up at the outside temp calibration screen-- just back away slowly and it will all return to normal if you dont touch anything
Or refer to your online or handheld copy of the owner book!

unable to reset service reminder

We have a '08 TL with 9850 miles. I do all oil changes and basic upkeep. The "service due now - B1" will not clear. I have changed oil and filter and rotated the tires. When I hold down the reset button on the steering wheel at the oil life % screen, the "service due now - B1" pops up after 10 seconds. How do I clear this thing?

Wrong forum. This is 1999 - 2003 TL's.

Reset is in the Owners Manual. https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...SEP2008OMA.pdf

Resetting the Engine Oil Life
Indicator

Your dealer will reset the display
2. after completing the required
maintenance service. You will see
‘‘OIL LIFE 100%’’ on the display the
next time you turn the ignition
switch to the ON (II) position.
If maintenance service is done by
someone other than your dealer,
reset the maintenance minder as
follows:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON
(II) position.

2. Press the INFO ( / ) button
repeatedly until the engine oil life
is displayed.

3. Press and hold the SEL/RESET
button for 10 seconds. The multiinformation
display will ask for a
confirmation.

- If you are sure you want to reset
the display, press the SEL/
RESET button to select ‘‘OK.’’

- If you do not want to reset the
display, press the INFO ( / )
button to select ‘‘Cancel.’’

If all of that doesn't work - - trip to the dealer, I guess.
