Replacing Valve Covers...

My TL 3.2 Type S has 251803 miles on it, and I am replacing the valve cover gaskets, spark plug tube and hold down mounts gaskets. I also plan on changing the camshaft thrust cover o-rings on the front and rear valve banks. I have oil build up around all of these areas, and I have already changed the oil pan as I had stripped threads on the drain plug or I would have done the work on the valve covers and the camshaft covers first. In any case, Is there any other maintenance or adjustment work that I should look at while I have the intake removed and the valve covers off?

Yes, absolutely!

EGR inspection/cleaning and if you feel comfortable with tools after your drain plug mishap: valve clearance inspection/adjustment. If you do take on the valve clearance task; I suggest the go-nogo feeler gauges as they help make the "feeling" part a little less subjective.

You should be able to get away with re-using some gaskets; but just in case something gets damaged when taking things apart, you might want grab the paper gasket that goes between the throttle body and intake manifold while you are buying the other gaskets.

In addition to what @whitetiger5 said, you might want to pick up an extra spark plug tube gasket or two. I had a lot of trouble lining up the one on cylinder #1 and ended up ruining a couple before getting the rear valve cover reinstalled correctly. That cylinder is hard to reach and even harder to see. And I'm kind of a klutz, but whatever.

Thanks Acurazine community, I successfully replaced the valve cover gaskets after replacing the rear valve cover which had a baby mouth sized bite taken out of the inner lip that mates up to the gasket. I picked up a replacement from my Pull-a-Part for $27. I also replaced the o-rings in both the front and rear camshaft covers, (both were broken), I replaced all the spark plug tube gaskets, (removing the old ones was the hardest part of the job), and the bolt gaskets. I also cleaned the EGR valve, and the throttle body. I got some surging afterwards and I doubled back to remove and clean the IACV out as well and now everything is running well and smoothly.
