Post Replacing OEM Tires

I know this is the wrong forum, but I want to get a good long post about members that have replaced OEM tires, so that I can move this post to Tire and Wheels FAQ.

Now that I sell tires, I have been getting alot of emails asking which tires to get
The popular choices seem to be
Toyo Proxy FZ4
Bridgestone Potenza RE7030
Kumho

Which ones do you have and how do you like them ? Any viberation at high speeds ? (there shouldn't be if they were balanced right)
Thanks for your input and I will move this to T & W FAQ once it falls to 2nd page

I replaced my stock tires at 14.5K miles. I changed to Yokohama Avid V4's. Size 215/55/16's. So far, after 1.5K miles, I love these tires. The only issue I have is that the car pulls slightly to the right, but I think that Acura messed up the alignment after putting the new tires on. I'm having that checked out this week.

I have not noticed any added road noise but have noticed that the car sticks to the road like glue around tight turns. Accelleration is now quicker because there is no peeling out forcing the TCS on. The absolute biggest difference is wet weather traction. It totally sucked with the stock tires and now I notice almost no difference going from dry to wet.

I've got about 12k miles on my Kumho's, 215/55-16. Smooth, fairly quiet ride. They handle great in dry and wet conditions. I was skepticle about purchasing but figured for $73 a piece they were worth a try. That was money well spent, couldn't be happier.

I have the Toyo Proxes in 18" Z-rated and I love them! They are the great quality tires and they are not noisy compared to the Pirelli P-Zero's and Pirrelli 7000's that i had before. Good tire in 16" stock applications as well as 18" aftermarket applications as well.

I replaced my stock Michelins with Ultra High performance All-season Michelin Pilot XGT-Z4 tires.....225/55-ZR-16, when my car had 3000 miles on it. These tires have been outfitted on the stock rims (16 x 6.5)...

Handles very well in dry weather, wet weather and also snowy conditions.... a bit noisier than the stock touring tires, but that was expected. The handling improvements over the stock tires are phenomenal. These tires hug the road like a champ, while the stock tires used to squeal like a pig at even a moderately aggressive move....

The downside is that the mileage decreases a bit over the stock tires (about 2-3 miles per gallon reduces over stock) and of course, they are a bit noisier than the stock tires.....I consistently get about 340-350 miles per tank now (the tank fills up to about 14.4 - 14.45 during the fill-up), which takes the mileage to about 24mpg...during a long trip a while back with the Michelin Pilots (> 2500 miles), it returned a phenomenal 32mpg......with automatic climate control on and speeds between 70-90mph...on a particular trip when I kept the speed steadily on 70mph, the car returned a mileage of 36mpg....Honda Civic mileage territory, may I point out !!!!

I am a happy camper with these tires...been using them for close to 9000 miles...

    Hope this helps....

I have Toyo Proxes FZ4 in 225/40/18. Good tires with minimum road noise for the price. But I feel the gripping power could be better.

From my personal experience, I liked Nitto Extreme better (on my previous car).

I got 17" (205/45) Dunlop SP9000's on my CL-S rims. These tires stick like glue and are very quiet. Even at stock size, I would think that it would easily out perform the stock Michelins!

I changed my tires at about 11k miles, to an all season, performance type tires. I know lots of people don't like "all season" tires, but before the flames, you have to understand, we have such changing weather here in Colorado Springs, I don't think we've had more than about 1 week of nice weather in a row, this year, where we didn't get snow, rain, sleet, fog, drizzle, etc. at some point or another. It's better to have tires that are more versitale, than very good at one thing. I LOVE the way it changed the car's handling, ride. They are Aqua-Flow Grand Spirit 225/50/16's. Just like Goodyear's Aqua Tread tire, but much cheaper. Mileage is a little lower on hiway driving, but performance is worth it! (I know the speedo is off b/c of the 50 series VS 55 series, DON'T CARE )Well worth the investment though... noisy at first, but ok now

I replaced my stocks with 17in Bridgestone 730s. Dry and wet traction improved considerably considering that they were not that expensive. (relative to other tires in same category)

Recommend you leave you car home in any type of snow. They are absolutely horrible.

Dunlop SP9000, recommended by Snook. They stick like glue as yu888 said. Great in wet and dry. Still have OEM rims and tires for winter. Don't want to get salt all over those C2s.

Right now if you buy 4 BF Goodrich tires you get a free GTech Pro! Good from June 17-aug 31.

By the way, the RE730s are awesome tires at a great price!!!!!

The Bridgestone Potenza RE730 are GREAT tires! They stick like crazy glue, and are very quiet when they do break loose. NO pig squealing noises. Road noise is better than the stock Bridgestone Turanza that my Accord came with. Wet traction is also impressive.

I put some SP9000 (215/55) on my stock wheels and the car drifted slightly left or right depending on wheel rotation (no alignment or wheel problems ??). Not too many 215/55 tires out there I liked. Didn't go with 225/55 because I remember from last years posts that they rub with Comptech springs.
Ended up with Michelin Pilot XGT-V4 (215/60-VR), Z4 not avail in 215/60 or 55. Car drives dead straight and handles great. Had to jam on the brakes in the rain from 80 to 30 and it stopped real good...
Hunter001 - I'm surprised your Z4 are noisy and show poorer gas mileage. My V4 aren't loud and my mileage has stayed at 27-28 (plus I tack slightly less now with 215/60). Both our tires are rated the same; http://www.tirerack.com/tires/michel...pilotxgtz4.jsp

Next up will probably be TL/CL 17" wheels with 225/50 ZR tires.

My car is bone stock for now with 225/55/16 P7000 SS. I think they are GREAT! The ride is still good, the car handles way better then before. The steering feels heavier and it pulls to the right/left more depending on the road (when it's not flat). I went to the track with my TL, and it really made a huge difference.

    Thumbs up

I noticed that Toyo Proxes T1-S offers 215/50-17, a direct replacement for the Type-S, worth considering...

Finally got tired of 14K miles of squeeling stock Michelin Energy tires and had them replaced today with Bridgestone RE730 225/55-16 on stock rims. Wow - looks great! There's 1" more contact patch width on the ground so it ought to be much better cornering. Maybe now I can really use my comptech sways on off ramps instead of all the squeeling without good speed. Thx to all for the comments about tires. I'll let the tires seat into the rims a couple of days before I start to push them.

I have a question about front tire clearance now. I noticed that there is very little space between the tire sidewall and the front strut assembly no matter whether the tires are pointed straight or turned. Seems only like about 3/8" gap. It this the same for others with this size tire on the stock 16 x 6.5" rims? Does the tire inside scrape on hard turns due to sidewall flex? Seems like the rim should have more offset.

Also, what tire pressure are you guys running for these high perf tires? What's optimal for max g's vs mileage?

    confused

I got a reply from Tire-Rack when ask for a quote for RE730 225/55/16, they said the tire will fit on stock 16" rims, but they will rub on the car. Any one experiencing this? Or currently have this tire on stock rims? Thx.
