Replacement Axles
Replacement Axles
Our 99 TL-P has around 112K miles and vibrates at highway speeds. I'm pretty sure that it's axles.
Has anybody tried Napa Auto Parts axles? They list new ones for about $110 each side. Cheapest i've found OEM are around $800 - 850 for the pair.

Well I went down to Napa and bought a pair of these axles. I couldn't believe it. For $110 each, they are NEW axles. The guy at Napa hooked me up with an additional discount and I got both new axles out the door for $214. Good thing about new parts is no core to mess with. Went down to Harbor Freight tools and bought a $6.99 pitman arm puller that I thought would work to pop off the lower ball joint and it worked.
1 1/2 hours later and I've got two new axles in the TL-P and no vibration. Turns out that the drivers side inner CV was bad. It definitely had slack in it. The new axles didn't have the rubber doughnut on them like the stock axles but I can't tell the difference in the way it drives. It drives smooth like it did before.

I used a pitman arm puller that looked like this one:
It had a 28mm opening and I only paid $6.99 plus tax at Harbor Freight Tools. I know it's not the correct tool but I got it to work and press the ball joint spindle out with it and it worked fine.
Pulling the axle out of the tranny on the drivers side was harder than the passenger side which connects to an intermediate shaft assembly. You just have to get under the edge of the shaft and the case and pop out the shaft. You also need the proper tools to get the axle nut off too. I've got an electric impact gun and already had a socket large enough for the axle nut so that came off without a problem.
Used Helms manual and guided me right through.
