Removing window tint

Hey guys, I was wondering how I would go about removing the tint from my friends windows. Is there a special solution that I need? How hard is it to do and what will make my life easier?

Thanks
Rosh

The removal of a tint on any car depending on long the tint has been on is a rather difficult, fustrating, and time-consuming project. What you essentially have to do is use a blow dryer and heat the film and slowly remove the film with a razor. The rear window will be the most difficult due to the defroster...once accidential slice and you may lose a section of your defrosting capabilities. I would recommend having it professionally removed...unless you have the time and the patience to do such a project. Be sure to check the warranty the shop is willing to offer you for removing the tint off the rear window. I think some place may warranty it such as they will replace it if they damage it, but that is highly unlikely.

i took of the tints of my old car before, took me a long time. the side windows are easy but it will take some time, the back window is the must difficult if you care about your defrosters. your friend should have it professionally done, unless he has alot of time on his hands.

Using a razor to scrape it off!!!! Thats plain crazy man.

Get yourself a some Simple Green Spray cleaner and a large black garbage bag. Spray the tint all up with the Green and stick the Glad bag (cut to fit the window) onto the window.

Let it sit in the sun for some hours and the tint should come off rather easily.

These tints are from a 93 Civic and they are turning purple and they bubbled up. I'll take the side window tints off, but I will let her know that the rear will be a pain in the @$$.

Thanks!

I think they do use an ammonia solution to remove it, but I have also heard of using simple green and the black garbage bag technique. Let us know how it turns out...

Working out of D.C. JPritch. That's what happens when you tell your senior management, 2nd in command, about how you feel about the agency you work for...they send you on a developmental assignment. Trying to post when I can, but serious lack of privacy around here...

Anyone in the D.C. area getting together for a meet???

Hey man, there is going to be a big CL/TL/Altima meet in Md on Sat, June 29th. BadAzz and I are planning on going. It's a big meet and they're gonna bar-b-q!

You still going to be in the area then?

Actually, I'm going not going to be up here that whole week because it is a "no-travel" week due to the July 4th holiday. Damn...talk about bad timing...ugh, I need a new job...

Last time I had tint removed, the company used a steamer. They just blew steam (ammonia treated I assume) on the windows for a while and boom, came right off.

BTW: I think your thread got hi-jacked.
