Removing tints

I want to remove the front tints since my uncles gonna be driving the first gen tl now. Whats the best/easiest way to get it to come off. I'll probably do it tomorrow.

Spray lots of simple green inside the windows. Make sure you soak them. Then use a trashbag and cover them up to keep them wet. Turn on the heater so that the glue comes off better. After some time just use a razor blade and start stripping. Be real careful on the defrost lines on the rear window.

I used a razor blade to remove the tint. Then I used goo gone to remove the adhesive left behind. Goo gone+razor blade+lotsa patience=removal of that damn adhesive crap.

this is exactly what I did on a previous car and it worked like a charm...yea, the patience thing is important with the glue otherwise you're going to drive yourself insane.

the process you guys posted is very unnecessary...all you have to do is peel off the film. afterwards, you'll have the glue from the tint on the window. just spray soapy water on the window and proceed to scrape off the glue. the glue will come off real easy if you soak the window with the soapy water. after, you can use steel wool to LIGHTLY scrub the windows. if you scrub too hard, you will scratch the window.

i know this simple way works b/c i use to work at my friend's tint shop. no need to buy anything.

1) soapy water
2) razor blade
3) a little elbow grease
4) steel wool (optional)

What worked best for me was:

Items needed:
Grade 0000 (four zeros) steel wool from wal-mart
Spray bottle
Dawn blue dishwashing soap
warm water.

1. Start a corner of the film and peel back. Tint has two layers in most cases. The first layer will take the colored film off, the layer underneath is the glue.

2. Now you are left with the glue residue. Simply put some dawn soap into your spray bottle. Mix with warm to hot water. I used hot water.

3. Spray the soapy mixture all over the window on the glue. Make sure you put some paper towels or old t-shirt at the bottom so the fluid doesn't run down your door if you want to keep things cleaner.

4. Wait about 15 minutes, put some more hot water into your spray bottle and repeat step 3, then wait another 15 minutes.

5. The glue will then be super soft and use the steel wool and rub in a circular motion around the glass. The tint will be 100% removed. The steel wool will not scratch as long as you use the 0000 grade.

I did this on 4 door windows in about 1hr or so. There are other methods, but this is what my tinter told me to do and he's been doing this for close to 20 years now. It worked great for me and saved me alot of money and scratches to my windows by not using a blade.

Good Luck!
