Removing rear seat back for storing snowboards

Has anyone tried removing the rear seat back in order to fit a couple snowboards? I know there is supposed to be some kind of body support behind the seat but if a couple boards can still fit it might be worth it. Is there any other solution? Anyone have success taking out the frame around the lame "ski pass through" hole to fit snowboards?

if i remember correctly, if you remove the seat back, the hole will be large enough to fit a snowboard through....but it's been a while since i've removed the back so i could be wrong. Just take the back out yourself and see. Removal is fast and easy. Lift up the seat bottom, it'll unclip and can be pulled straight out. Unbolt 3 bolts from the bottom of the seat backing, then lift up towards the windshield and out towards you. good luck.

Yes with the rear back removed the hole will be more than large enough. I keep my seat unbolted just for when i have to haul something larger. All i have to do is lift up on the seat cushion, lay it upright on the floor, lift up and lay down the seat back

yeah i hate that a board doesnt fit. i end up putting it diagonally in the back seat. i have a 159 wide, and that takes up a lot of room. damn that lack of 60/40 and a biased "ski" pass thru. the non folding seats is one of the only things that pisses my off about this car. even my old 156 regular wasnt close to getting in that ski pass.

^ unbolt the seat, it takes 5 min to do and there will be no effect from it being unbolted. Then when you need it you an flip it down.

any rattles when no one is sitting on it?

also that kills the back seat, atleast if put the board diagonal a girl or small guy can sit on one side if needed. but i do see how this can be useful in other circumstances. thanks for the idea.

yeah, thats the obvious choice.

-i dont like leaving my board and bindings exposed to elements and highway debris.
-the gas mileage goes down, and for me to go boarding thats atleast a 3+ hr trip. a rack with deflector is just too much $$ for how much i would need it.
-when hanging out at the lodge for a drink or two, i never feel like its safe in the roof rack, maybe im just a paranoid city dweller.

think about how much a 60/40 would have helped you over the years. not being able to get a board in there is just another thing that has no shot at fitting.

why cant skiiers and boarders get along?

does the fairing improve gas mileage if you have a roof rack? i have the yakima rack but no fairing, i though it was unnecessary and an outrageous price for a piece of plastic. i also made the poles myself and used rubber spray.

How much does the rack scratch the top of the car? Is there any other place to attach a rack than on the door frame? Is anything under the strip of rubber that goes along each side of the roof?

I havent seen the rack for the tl to know how it attaches. But i know many that use roof racks and they have never scratched any of their roofs.

Yes its metal under there. Pull it up sometime, its just press fit in there and pulls out very easy

Or a better answer, maybe you should have checked out the rear seat before you bought the TL.

sorry to bring back an old thread but i just went snowboarding yesterday w/some buddies and removing the rear seat worked perfectly to fit my gf and my boards as well as the rest of our gear w/o having to worry about getting your leather wet or scratched. the ride noise was increased dramatically but a good couple of cds made that go away.

i also wanted to take this opportunity to show off my custom stomp pad.
