Thanksgiving.......................car accident =(

Well what a way to start the holiday break...

Got into a little car accident tonight, leaving a friend's house to go bowling.

4 way intersection with stop signs, the guy on my right came after me.

I was two thirds of the way through the intersection when he hits my passenger side...

My rear passenger door is dented and scratched, and some of the fender.

Still don't know how he didn't see me or stopped. I was going 5mph max.

He tried "Want to just forget about it?"

I was like "Are you serious??? It's not my fault."

Cop came, did the whole report writing usual.

Still a little at this.

I'll get pics later. Have to get them from my friend.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Drive safe.

I have no idea... He had several excuses.

"It was dark, I didn't see you."
"I looked left, right, but forgot to look left again."

The guy was 66 yrs old. He kept trying to talk to me about his "good record" and a whole bunch of crap that I didn't want to hear.

Very sorry to hear that.... sucks. Hope insurance is there for ya...

BTW - read an article that says Thanksgiving is the DEADLIEST day of the year for traffic accidents... more people on the road and more people drinking alcohol too - beats out new year's eve/day by a long shot!

Be safe...

as you age the peripheral vision narrows- making it so you may not see something you are not looking directly at
One good reason to drive with headlights on in daytime- give old people extra help seeing you~
Many can only see the lane they are in- not the lane next to them

good thing on this one- an older person likely has valid insurance, and you got all the correct procedures with the cops

Call your agent ASAP and enjoy the loaner- its on your agent to recover cost from other company

Thanks guys! Not gonna lie, I was pretty pissed last night lol.

But no one's hurt, and that's all that matters.

Thanks! He wasn't drunk. Just couldn't see me/stop in time, I guess.

Yea I got your PM. I have to look at my finals schedule. Lots of things due at the end of semester. I'll take a look at the Philly thread soon.

This was in NE Philly. Near Castor and Bustleton.

Thanks. Yup, we both had insurance. He says his was up to date, but he didn't have the most up to date card. Not sure how that's going to play out. The cop didn't give him a ticket...

I'll deal with everything after the break.

That sucks bucks man.. But at least you're ok. Cars can be fixed and you'll have yours back soon. Happy thanksgiving everyone. Get to where you're going safely and stay there. Try not to be out with the mass of drivers who are running late tonight and those still a little tipsy tomorrow morning.

Yep, I'll be calling them soon. Most likely he has valid insurance. He was driving a 07 Camry Hybrid.

Gotta enjoy Thanksgiving first!

that blows, but at least you are ok, cause cars can be repaired easy compared to your body

also is your car at least driveable???

Yup, it's drivable, just body damage.

I swerve at the end, so instead of a straight T-bone, I was at an angle from him. So only his front left bumper hit my rear passenger door, and caught a bit of the fender.

He didn't hit the wheel, or maybe verrrryy lightly. No vibrations on the way home.

at least it is driveable , but i would still look at the rim and tire VERY closey, cause he may have still hit the alignment out; there is a car at my work that got hit in the front fender (minor t-bone too), and scraped the front passenger door, but anyways the suspension is completely collasped inwards (like 30 degrees of negetive camber) but the wheel was never touched, just the very top edge of the tire, so i would look more alot more closely,

also fyi: the rear "fender" is actually a quarterpanel on most cars, except for if you are talking about a nsx or so cause the outside sheetmetal actually unbolts from the frame on those

^ Oh, well then it's the rear quarter panel then. Those are expensive fixes aren't they? I see no joints, it just runs up the roof line to the front...

I'm pretty sure the rear wheel is fine. I guess they'll inspect it at the body shop.

Anyway, I'm uploading pics now.

is that rain in the pictures???

but yeah they might be able to reshape that section, but it not then yeah that section is spot welded onto the car so not so easy to replace (door is easy to replace especially being the rear)

also in the pictures it is hard to tell if that section is actually bent, but hopefully it is not and the paint is just marked up, and i would make sure that they at least do an alignment check, better safe then with premature worn tires, so i would just minamise your driving till it gets fixed

btw: you should have at least broke his headlight

LoL yea it's been drizzling here lately.

The quarter panel is dented (just above the wheel well) It's a nice dent though....meaning it's like curved nicely, so maybe they'll be able to reshape it.

I doubt they'll be able to do anything for the door. The way it's dented, there's a lot of odd bends and creases. I wonder if they'll swap the glass, they're tinted.

I'll be sure to tell them to check alignment.

It's funny you said that about his headlight. They guy kept going on about how he's lucky his headlights are ok. Since they're the "expensive parts" lol

about the quater panel, yeah hopefully they can reshape it instead of them having to tear apart that side of the car and having to weld a new piece onto the car,

the door they might just reskin the door if it did not get the structure of the door itself, and if they do replace it they should be swapping the glass so it matches

about the headlight i know on a nissan maxima (maybe altima, don't remember exactly) that they were like a $1000 to replace per side or something ridiculas to replace when they were stolen a couple of years ago, but HOPEFULLY it is cracked somewhere hidden so water seeps in

also remember YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE YOUR CAR WHERE THE INSURANCE SAYS TO, you have the right to pick the shop that you want to do the work, just might have to do a little more leg work of getting multiple qoute's (depends on insurance) but should not be that big of a deal
about where the insurance says to go, there is normally a reason for that, cause they like to cut courners and cut COSTS for the insurance
also geneally the easiest way to get it paid for is to just let the insurance pay the body shop directly and have the body shop deal with them in what is needed for the repair, also YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER to the body shop not the insurance, the insurance just happens to be footing the bill, also they should be on your side not the insurance's cause YOU PICKED THEM, not the insurance

Yea, I'm going to let my insurance handle it. My insurance will make the estimate and get paid through the other guy's insurance.

^ That's a stain, it was there before I think.

Do you guys know if most body shops have alignment racks? Or is that something I should ask them.
