Question Removing the headliner

Did a search so I already have that arrow in my quiver, but I just want to be sure that if I start pulling on the headliner I'll be able to get back up there neat and clean. Guess it fastens by 3 clips that snap into place by the rear window? By pulling it down will I have access to the area behind the sunroof? Trying to prevent my car from going Snap, Crackle, and Pop!.............Thanks

Be VERY careful when pulling the headliner down. Its basically a very thin insulating board with cloth mounted over it and it creases easily. If you crease it, its going to show even after you try to flatten it back out.

Thanks for your reply.....So I'm correct in saying that the headliner can be detached by pulling down on it where it meets the rear window? To me it almost seems as if it's glued on back there. I don't really get the feeling that there are any clips. Can you confirm that there are clips that hold it up?...

Its been a long while since I pulled mine down (to fix a rattle up there). I do remember you have to remove that one plastic clip thats in the rear over the passenger area. You will need to remove the sun visors. You will also have to remove the rubber trim around each of the door opening areas and around the sunroof opening. You also have to remove the plastic trim in between the doors (the panel through which the seat belt attaches) and the seat belt bolt. Then the whole roof panel comes down and out. Again remember that as you start removing stuff, the roof panel is going to want to come down on its own so either have a friend to help you, or sit yourself in the middle of the car and use the top of your head to hold it up (I am serious here!) You should also put the front seats in their most reclined position to give you extra manuevering room to take the roof panel out. What ever you do, take your time. If you rush, you are liable to crease the roof panel and then you'll have an unfortunate reminder in your car roof forever....

Is it possible to just start at the back and not remove all the things that you mention since the area in which I want to muck around is located behind the sunroof?

You wont have much room back there to do any thing, plus your more likely to damage the headliner. Its really not that hard to remove. just take your time

:shakehead Do NOT take the shortcut with this. You don't have to pull very hard on the headliner to crease it.

Thanks for everyone's help with this. One last question: You know that plug for the manual sunroof operation? I would imagine that should be removed as well...?

Not to go off topic, but I been wanting to remove my headliner also and replace the cloth headliner with a leather one. I did some search online and saw some for Accord. Are there leather roof headliner for our car and if so, anyone know where i may get them?

DugMac did you fix the rattle? I have the same one behind my sunroof towards the rear. Actually if I stick my hand where the sunshade goes back, and pull down alittle while driving, its gone.

So I am guessing something in there is causing it. Either its rubbing or touching something. It happens every bump.

If you fixed this please let me know what you did, its killing me!

shaker31280, believe it or not my rattle ended up being the plastic dome light lens. Noises in cars are difficult to trace, but at the time I was dealing with this issue I thought I could access that area behind my head by removing the dome light fixture instead of getting involved with removing the headliner. I'm not great at DIY stuff, so I was taking the most conservative approach I could think of. When I pulled off the dome lens I realized that I didn't have the correct size wrench to get at the bolts to remove the light, so I had to drive to another location. When I drove away there was no noise and it's still silent. I would have sworn initially that the noise was coming from somewhere in the back of the car. Try this simple remedy first and maybe that's all it is. Hope this helps and keep us posted...
