Removed Resonator.

I removed the resonator this weekend. Wasn’t that difficult. I did it without taking off the bumper. I have big hands but still was no problem taking it off from under the splashguard. I had a small ratchet which made it easier. You can see both screws from under the car. Just stick your hand up the opening and play with the ratchet until you connect with the screws then just start turning.

I also noticed a screw in the middle. I later found out that this connects the resonator with a U shaped pipe. I guess you don’t need to unscrew this. The whole thing will come out by unscrewing the other two.

Several questions??

Is the current position of the airbox opening sufficient to get cool air or do I need to attach tubing? I know some people have attached tubing. If I do, what diameter do I use and what is the best way to attach it to the airbox. Will it just slide right in?

I was also a little disappointed with the sound. From what I read, I thought it was going to be a lot louder. It is barely noticeable even at WOT. If someone had removed it without me knowing, I don’t think I would have ever noticed.

I’m still using the stock filter. Now I need to decide whether to spend $54 for a Comptech filter or $260 for the CAI w/ bypass. Tough decision.

It is sufficient...in other words you might be able to do a little better, but in comparison with the CAI is the same.

Your are correct, the sound is not much different, but once you add the highflow filter then you will notice the change.

In my opinion $54 for the comptech or K&N is better. I don't see a $200 advantage from the CAI in any possible way. You will be happy with either, your wallet ???? don't know.
