Remove TB when cleaning EGR, etc?

Quick question - when removing the intake manifold to clean the EGR and other gunk-collecting places, I've seen some DIYs where they remove the TB, some who leave it on. Any benefit for doing it one way or another? I know the TB doesn't really need to be cleaned typically, and it should stay fairly dry -- I saw in someones (Kris's??) where they just taped a plastic bag around the TB when cleaning. Just wondering. Thanks

Also, any rec's on carb cleaner?

I think it would be easier with it off. So you don't spray anything on the sensors. is't it only hold by a few bolts? make sure the can says for fuel injected engines. I bought a can that said not for fuel injected engine.

There isnt a need to remove it. If you take it off you will have to replace the gasket there.

This was what I was leaning towards - i just don't want to screw anything up - I've read posts of people having to replace their IAC, etc, presumably by getting cleaner / water in there.

No they have had to replace their IAC because they have failed. It wasnt from cleaning. Just use your head and dont go pouring cleaning stuff onto the sensors so that they are swimming. Once it is off the car you will see what ports need to be cleaned and how to go about it safely

Thanks for the clarification. Makes me feel less likely to screw things up. Appreciate it...
