Remote start

Anyone here have Remote Starter installed in their car ?
I just bought my 2002TL and am thinking about getting a R.S installed before the winter comes. From what I've heard Acura keys have encoded chip in the key, therefore I have to get another key made by Acura and somehow install it next to the ignition. Does anyone know how much Acura charge for another key made ?
Thanks

Depends on the dealer, you could mention to them that you didn't get a valet key, and that you want one...(without being charged for it of course).

The key wouldn't need to be cut like the others, they just need the head of it that holds the chip.

i've read that some alarms have a box that emulates the signal from the acura key so there's no need for an extra key just for the remote start. dont know the price of asking acura how much for another key but i bet it aint cheap.

DEI makes a immobilizer bypass for most Honda Cars. It will work on the TL. Model # 556HW. Most big car audio shops will carry this for about $50 bucks. If you have a Best Buy or Circuit City nearby they will have this part. Again, the DEI 556HW does not require an additional key.

Good Luck!!

I have the Clifford and I didn't have to get any key made. I never heard of this actually though.

no need to worry about the imobilizer, if the shop is good and knows what they are doing there are units to work around this problem

They use the "third key"

I have a 2002 TL but my wife has a 2004 MDX with a Remote Starter. They use the "third key", you know that key with the limited functionality for the key that they need to imbed in the dashboard.

My wife has a Viper model, that works great !!

I suggest you go to an installer that familiar with Acura's. I called my Dealership for a recommendation.
