Unhappy remote not working sometimes in cold weather?

My TL 99 remote sometimes don't respond to door unlock. I needed to press it like 5 to 8 times for it to respond and it seems to be attributed to cold weather. My friend has the same problem with his 99 TL and he told me just to use the keys to open the door. Dealer couldn't duplicate it twice since this problem is intermitten.

I've even have the dealer replace the car key batter the 1st time but it didn't help and it happens to both keys, so I am thinking it's the receiver that has the problem on the car.

It's very embrassing when you have guests and you can not get in to your car with the remote. During freezing winter it's also upseting to be standing outside pressing your remote 8 to 9 times to get it to respond. I will be contacting Acura directly soon.

I've had that with 2 other cars too --- my Grandmothers Villager (Nissan Keyless System) and my Thunderbird (Ford keyless system)

It's not *that* hard to use the key

My TL does it once and a blue moon too

I haven't used the key to open my car nearly 3 years I owned the car. Initially I thought the alarm would go off if I didn't unlock it w/the remote first (that's how it behaved w/my Integra alarm).

My car never had this remote problem until about 2 yrs into it.

You're right, but Firebird_EOU had the same thought as I did... only the time when I tried to enter the car with my key (when the remote didn't work) the alarm went off on me!!!

I have the same problem. It is definitely intermittent. It will requires multiple clicks to get the doors open or closed, or pop the trunk. The worst was one time at the mall, when it was freezing out. I could not open the doors or the trunk. Tried close to 10 times before it worked.

I had experienced the same problem as well. Its kinda like it needs a few clicks to 'wake it up' then it becomes responsive. Its definately only a facotr in cold weather. The dealer has not explanation either

Imagine you are getting chased by a gang of guys trying to jump you and you keep pressing the unlock button only to find out that the door is still locked. That would suck big time. It was happening to me too. All i did was change the battery and it went away for good. These batteries sometimes sit in the remote for a while and loose there charge. When you buy the car it has a few clicks left and then it goes bad.

interesting, my remote started acting up this last weekend too outta nowhere, took me a couple tries one day to unlock/lock car. maybe changing the battery would help? would we need to go to dealer for this if it is the OEM remote? or can I just swap it out myself with an Over the counter battery.

I doubt it's that battery is causing all the trouble tho...

It wasn't the battery. I had the dealer change the battery ($4) and it still had the same problem. It happened to both keys, recently the temp. are warm in east coast so it has been responding on the first click.
