Red Taillight spray questions.

Red Taillight spray questions.
Hi. I may do the red taillights soon on the orange part of my tails. Most of the spray I have seen looks good from far away but when you get close you can tell that it is spray, the surface didn't look as smooth and also not as reflective...
Anyone know of any good spray that doesn't dull the shine of the tails and looks OEM? Thanks.

I went to a big hobby-crafts type store that sells all the models in the world ---- I mean use the phonebook and find a big one. I went in and found translucent candy apple red model paint. They only had two colors, that and smoke that were translucent (lets light thru). I do not know what the model guys use the red for. I taped off the car's rear end and scuffed up the yellow part with a scotchbright pad as paint does not like to stick to smooth surfaces. I mean I did this just alittle. Use horizontal motion, not circular or anything low IQ like that. You can use steel wool or real fine sandpaper too. I did two coats five minutes apart and no one can tell it was painted. Looks exactly stock like the rest of the lense. Color match lucky me was 100% perfect. Remember if something goes wrong just have paint thinner nearby and wipe it off.

I will make do with red bulbs... heheh...
Try those Japanese imported ones... they are much better, light shines through better, too....
And there are 2 types from Japan, one is normal, clear, while the other one is "metallic", which would give you a metallic look(not shiny, dull looking)....
Usually, what I would do is spray couple more coats(with non-metallic one, of course) on, let it dry properly.... then wax it with polishing wax(don't put on too much wax at one time though... and try be gentle when wiping off the wax)..

I did mine today. I used the "Testors Candy Apple Red Transparent Spray" I sprayed it from the inside. When you spray it on the outside of the tail, the tail loses its shine looking dull...

Hey ArchAcuraTL,
I got the vinyl film from Texas Art Supply off of Montrose near Westheimer. I think it comes in a 3x4 sheet. It's less than 10 bucks. If you want, I can let you borrow the template I made for the tails.
Peter.

92 Legend - your lenses look real good. For those of you who want to spray paint your taillights but feel they look dull you can hit them with a coat of clear from a spray can. I didn't need to but some guys have fealt it was necessary. Just an idea.
