Seat Belt Pre-tensioner might have fired off.

if airbags deploy in a crash, the seatbelt will lock, the only way is to replace them and airbags during repair

Are you sure? If the seatbelt locks up in an accident, then it would trap the occupant in the seat.

When my mom crashed my Tahoe a few years back, the air bags deployed but the seatbelts were fine. I really don't think seatbelts are supposed to lock up like that.

Not true, because the buckle doesn't lock.

some cars have pretensioners in the buckles that discharge upon impact, some need the airbags to go off, some don't....also, the actual retractor which is usually made up of plastic components can get stuck, causing the belt not to retract anymore...in any case, it's a good idea to replace the seatbelts in use during the accident to be safe....

so that means it doesnt have anything to do with the air bags?
so i can just replace the pretensioners with out replacing the air bags?..
im replacing the air bags later...they cost to much

I am not sure the TL's pretensioners are tied into the airbag system, but I think not. I would not recommend replacing just the seat belts....and a reputable shop WON'T just replace seat belts if the bags are blown....that would be illegal...and the liability would be enough to close the largest body shop in the U.S....from a safety standpoint, if you want to be safe, replace bags and belts....don't you have an insurance company helping you out??
