Rearview mirror replacement

I am trying to replace the rearview mirror in my girlfriend's '00. The thing won't work anymore and you can see the liquid moving around in it. I already got a new mirror, but is there some trick to removing the mirror? Or do you have to break the adhesive off the windshield and go that way? Thanks for the help!

HINT! When you try to remove the old mirror, in anyway like try and pop it off by hitting it. I stupidly did that, cracked my windshield. Luckily I live in Florida where I claimed a rock hit my car and they pay for it ! ! .. I still dont' have my mirror on either:-( . I have the same problem as you with the liquid rolling around in my 01. I'll check back in, if I Figure out how to fix it, to get to the wireing I think you have to take out the homelink. Good Luck

Any thoughts on this yet? Anyone have the ability to search and see if someone might have already addressed this?
