Rearview mirror late year TL dilema
Well, today driving to work listening to the radio my rear view just fell off the windshield and took part of the glass with it(pictured below) I've seen this thread relatively often here and have went through the exploded thread and others. One post indicated the 03's may have a revised version of the mirror while another says otherwise. My mirror is just hanging in the car right now so if its better to swap it out now and save some possible hassle down the road i'm all for it but am also on a tight budget so i'm not interested in spending 70+ if mine isn't included in the issue. Any guidance is appreciated, thanks!

If you fear your mirror exploding, just open it up and remove the mirror. Take it to a local glass shop and they will cut a mirror (even a slightly tinted one if you desire) to fit in there. I did this to my mirror and I have no worries. Costs around $15. Better than spending tons of money to repair/replace a melted interior.

A few years back the mirror in my car exploded. We found a guy parting out his car and sold the mirror for like $30 or so. Not sure how tight your budget is, but that can be an option.

YES yes they are!
if yours has either an oval shape in the center or dots on the edge,,its toast now!!!
replace with factory unit--made differantly,,or have outer part and fluid removed as suggested above
DO NOT suggest used unit as it may be the old style
if you have glass coverage in your insurance it will replace the windshield, due to the broken piece weakens it

yeah, mine isn't quite falling off, but slight imperfections on the road will knock it loose and then it vibrates with the road. I have to constantly push the mirror up to reseat it. I need to figure something out for it. Among many other things on my laundry list of car-to-do stuff.

Just FYI, The mirror can't actually "explode" but it can leak out. The fluid/gel depending on year of car is not under pressure. It is just sandwiched between two pieces of glass with a seal around the edge. If you have a bubble in your mirror, the seal is bad and air has got into the space between the front/back glass. Sometimes this shows up as a line across the mirror. There is no way for enough pressure to build up between the 2 pieces of glass for it to actually "explode".
