Ok I have the autodim mirror in my car (which im sure everyone does) but anyone I have an interesting experince with it. I bought my car with tinted windows and the back one is really tinted. The other day I was like eh I bet I dont even need it on with the tint. So I go to push the button to shut it off. Well it turns out the whole time I had the car it was off becuase the green light came on (I felt really stupid at this point.) So now I figured ok with it on im going to try it at night so the green light is on a car gets behind me and nothing. Now what i was wondering is the tints blocking out the light for the sensor not to relieze its there or is there another problem with it?

Shine a flashlight at it to see if it works.

My car has had tints since purchased, so I was shocked at the mirror action on the loaner car from the dealer!! Sure is nice to have no distractions from the mirror changing all the time. You will learn to love it, just add small blind spot mirrors on the outside mirrors- helps!

Green light should indicate power on to mirror
If the flashlight doesnt make it work, scroll down thru the forums for mirror exploded
and the info to get a free replacement from its supplier
If your mirror has small bubbles or distortion- it needs replacement fast- ugly when they leak- thats why the replacements free!

The instructions that come with the mirror, if buying as after market, state how to test it:
http://www.cipausa.com/Autodim%20Fil...structions.pdf

or try and click on the corresponding product number:
http://www.cipausa.com/autodimming.htm

I just installed my replacement today. The orginal had a distorted, mirage type image and only half-ass dimmed. The replacement, obtained via procedures described in other threads, gives a clear image. Testing it tonight, the dim function worked find. I had the wife park behind me in her car and throw on the high beams. However, in pressing the off/on button, it did nothing. I was expecting an instananeous no dim versus dim. I will do the manufactuers test tommorrow in daylight. Maybe someone else can set us straight on how these mirrors actually work and what the on or off button does. Zero info on the product sites.

Thanks for your help everyone. Tonight I went out with my dads mag light and waited for awhile to get a car behind me to test it (it took awhile since it was 1230). Well it seemed to work becuase the headlights behind me dimmed down and seemed kind of blueish. Well thanks for your help I guess because of the tinted window it wasnt working to its full affect but if It wasnt there I think it would. Once again thanks for your help everyone.
