I just got confirmation that I will be receiving a new mirror shortly. How do we know for sure that it is really the new style of non liquid mirror. I have a 2000 TL.

I wanted to thank forum member Ksuchdeve for the excellent instructions for replacing the rear view mirror. I was able to replace my mirror in less than 20 minutes and I was taking my time to avoid and damage to the windshield.

See Page 13 of this thread for the instructions:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...&page=13&pp=25

And thanks to everyone else for reporting their experiences in receiving free replacements from Magna Donnelly.

Bob

My mirror was bubbled when I purchased my '99 TL last October and I thought I would have to spend a ton of $$ to replace it. I'm very happy I found this thread B4 the mirror leaked or exploded.

I emailed Dani today and recieved a response in about 15 minutes. The attached form was pre-filled with all the information except my shipping address, phone number, and vin#.

This site is awsome and I love my Acura!

This may be a dumb question and I think it was already answered but I just want to make sure. My mirror has a yellowish tint to it (like in the pics above) but the tint covers the entire mirror. pushing the button does nothing and there is never a change in the mirror. dows this mean mine is defective and could leak as well? should I contact Magna for a new one? Thanks

Yes, get it replaced. Better to be safe than sorry. Just contact Dani at Magna Donnelly and see what she can do for you. If it isn't working, she will most likely send you one, so that it doesn't eventually "blow up" on you. My .

And it's not really under warranty. It appears that Magna has just been replacing these as a goodwill gesture. (And possibly to avoid owner complaints when they leak.)

So there's no guarantee that they'll continue to replace these for free. If your mirror has a problem, request a replacement now.

I was surprised how quickly they sent me a replacement.

Bob

For the longest time I never used the mirror dimming feature, and then there was a while when I did use it, until I saw this thread. Got an '03, I stopped using the dimming feature and I'm considering getting a Broadway mirror because its way more useful anyway. What I'm concerned about is I won't know if the mirror breaks or fails since the mirror will be covering it. Should I just get it replaced, or should I not worry about it since I'm not using the dim feature anymore?

wonder if they made mirrors for Lincoln? I have a 96 continental that I used in bad weather and my mirror looks like it has come apart inside. anyone have any ideas on figuring this out? I think it has auto dim, which I have never noticed doing anything and a switch on it.
thanks

Everything you need to know to request a free replacement is in this thread. Start at the end and read backwards to save time.

You might as well request a replacement so that you have a spare.

And if the one you bought on eBay is used I'd pull it and install the new one. If the mirror is used there might be a greater risk of it leaking. And a leaking mirror can do a lot of damage to your interior.

Did you save your old mirror? Magna Donnelly sends a postage paid return shipping box for the old mirror.

Bob

I just changed mine out. It started dimming unevenly and got to a point where it wasn't dimming at all.

It was weird, the tint would only happen in the upper right and WAY out to the left in a share that almost appeared like a bubble.

Anyway - new one is installed with the instructions given in this thread. Thanks all!

The same defect happened on my 01 Cl, the mirror fluid is corrosive and required me to replace all the plastic parts that it touched, the car was still warrantied and the dealership (Mile High Honda/Acura) said that they had never seen anything like it before. If it got on your leather good luck, that stuff is tarry and nasty and corrosive like i said. It probably ruined the spots on the seats that it touched to tell you the truth. when i got it on my hands it gave me a chemical burn. Try some saddle soap, you know, for nice horse saddles with a sponge and some good leather conditioner to atleast get the stain out but the chemical will probably take off the top layer of the leather that it touched. I have no idea what to tell you about the rest man, I hope you can get it replaced.
