There have been several reports of cracked windshields so spend some time reading this thread for some removal tips. If you're not comfortable with the amount of force you're having to apply, take it to a pro.
Good luck!

Thanks to everyone on this site and to Dani. I was going to send the wife to the dealer after her mirror went bad but in looking for a place to order the parts I found this site. I contacted Dani and I had a new mirror in a few days. I was shocked, I emailed back the info and shortly after I had a reply. I figure it would be a canned we are looking into this but it was the shipping info for the replacement. Following the instructions here it took about 15 minutes and it has stayed out for a week or so!
take the mirror out of the car as soon as you can. if the fluid starts leaking all over the place, it can damage your interior and might be harmful to your health. good luck getting the new one in there.
Thanks. I backed out and once I noticed it I pulled back into my driveway and removed the mirror. I hope it hasn't leaked through the bag I put it in! I just sent Dani a email and am awaiting a response.
On my wifes car it had the spot for a while. She had it for a while and did not say anything at first, it was small. I moved her car and thats when I saw it. She said it had just started getting bigger. She has said that the new mirror works allot better then her old one.
I really do not think the stuff inside the mirror is bad for your health. If it was they would have to have info in the mailer and it would not just ship in a plastic bag in a cardboard box. I would not purposely inhale and I sure would not touch it with out rubber gloves but I do not believe that people have had a few minutes expose and are now hacking out their lungs and have lumps in their throats.

Calling Dani is really the best option if you are looking for a faster response. I called her one day and she instantly email'ed me the form and then I sent it back and within 3 days I had a new mirror. I was lucky because I just happened to be having my windshield replaced during the 3 day wait so I had the windshield people just take my old mirror off for me and I had to drive around for ~2 days without one which is a little odd at first. lol

I don't know what ended up happening with this guy or that the ailments he had were a result of the contents of the mirror, just something to think about when handling the defective mirror. I just thought it was kind of weird how they were acting strange about the actual contents of the mirror.
Another thank you post for this thread, which saved me the cost of a new mirror. My old mirror seemed really tight at first, but by moving it back and forth it soon came off. I did not use any tools, but just wiggled it, and it soon started to move downwards.
Like I said in a few minutes of exposure he got that sick, what are these things filled with mustard gas. If I remember correctly he already had an attorney so no wonder they were being tight lipped. One of his points was look what it did to the dash , it must be hamfull to me. Nail Polish remove will do the same thing and people hanlde that all the time.
I am not saying I would drink the stuff and I sure would no touch it with out gloves and yes I would roll down my windows and let the car air out after it blew up but I think that getting long term health problems is not going to happen.
OK so this useful thread does not get highjacked into somethin elese this is my last heath issue coment. Iwill say if you are haing a problem contact Dani. THey will get you a new mirror in no time!

Well great, sent her my claim form then she emails me back and says that the mirrors are out of stock and hopes to have them within a couple of weeks. I asked her if I could buy one from the dealership and be reimbursed, now I'm just awaiting a response.

who should i call... post 397 says Steve Chenlo but I still see references to Dani... What's Dani's number. I went back a few pages from the end and didn't see it. If someone could repost her contact info please do. I also left a message with Steve for the time being.
You can contact either, but Dani is the go to person. She was on vacation for a while and that is why Steve was taking her calls.
Once she got back from vacation she got me my mirror in 3 days and the install was easy thanks to the guys on this forum, thanks alot everyone, you saved me alot of time, frustration and money!!

First of all, I want to let you all know that if this thread is any indication, this forum is terrific! I have a 99 TL with the defective mirror - the liquid is currently contained inside but you can see it in the bottom half behind the first layer of glass. When this happened (around 7/31) I googled for "automatic day/night mirror Acura" which led me to this thread. Thanks to the information you all have gathered and posted, I emailed Dani on 8/1 and got a quick response with the form, filled it out and sent it back, all in an afternoon.
Now for the bad news - as the previous poster said, the mirror is out of stock. Worse, she doesn't know how long it will take to get into stock. Here is what she wrote to me yesterday:
I have no stock of this particular mirror. The mirror cell itself is built overseas and we are awaiting a shipment of them. I can't give you a timeframe as to when our manufacturing plant will get the cells to build the mirrors. Once the cells arrive to our manufacturing plant they will build the mirrors when they get an opening in their schedule. I also cannot predict when that might be but in rare cases I've had to wait 2 months.
^ Yeah, she told me I would have to wait two weeks, after telling her that's bullshit she told me the orders are now made domestically so it would cut the time in half. That was about a week and a half ago.
Thankks for the latest and greatest info, my car is in storage but when I get back to the states I plan on checking on it ASAP.

If you think it is bullshit go buy the mirror and be done with it. I know it would be a hassle to wait 2 months for a mirror and I would just suck up the $120 and be done with it. I would think that you could then sell the one from Danni when it got in to recoup some of your cost.
I am pretty sure they do not have to replace these mirror and really are doing it out of good faith. since that is the case their is only so much they are going to do and telling them it is bullshit when they are doing you a favor is not going to help the situation any.

I have the infamous BUBBLE in my mirror. After reading all this 17 pages of thread, I contacted MAGNA yesterday via phone through the posted number on their website. I left a message with sales and they got back to me within and hour. I talked to Steve who was very polite and he said Dani would email me shortly. And she did! Within another hour! She sent me the form you fill out and email back, and contacted me again once she got it. She also regretted to inform me that the mirrors for our car are out of stock and said she would contact me as soon as they came in. With these people responding so quickly to our concerns, I believe she will send the new mirror ASAP. Pretty good customer service if you ask me! But I guess I can't really say that until I have the new mirror in my hands.

Does anyone have a story about successfully containing the fluid with a plastic bag?

i know the stuff inside the mirror melted the plastic center console and my radio remote.... so i really don't see how putting a thin plastic bag/zip lock around the mirror would help... i would think it would eat right through it.... just my 2 cents though... i really don't see a problem driving w/o the rear view mirror... it is an inconvience but it's just like having dark ass tint on the rear window... as long as you use both of your side mirrors you should be fine... you just can't really look out for cops that good anymore...
Just an update, guys, on the status of replacement mirrors from Magna-Donnelly:
1. It's now been three weeks since I returned the form to Dani Andriacchi, and still no mirror, nor even any idea when to expect it.
2. I emailed her for an update yesterday. She replied, "No update yet but I continue to bug them." (Whoever "them" is.)
3. I also asked her whether the replacement mirrors were designed differently than the old mirrors, or whether they too will leak eventually. To this she said simply, "I wish I could answer your questions as to how these mirrors are built but I don't know".
In light of this situation and my fear about continuing to drive around with a mirror which might explode and/or spew a corrosive liquid around my car (and on me and my passengers) at any minute, yesterday I bought a cheap replacement mirror at autozone. It is item #32000 - 10" day/night mirror, $14. The day/night switch is accomplished with a simple lever instead of a dangerous combination of electronics and chemistry.
I removed the old mirror following the wonderful procedure someone has posted elsewhere on this board (link is in this thread somewhere). I had absolutely no problems getting the old mirror out - it took about 15 minutes to remove it and reinstall the ceiling console (the thing with the map lights). It came off the windshield mounting readily when I wiggled it from side to side, just as someone else said. Very little force was required. Now it is safely inside a newspaper-lined cardboard box in my garage, where it can't do any harm.
The new mirror (which incidentally says "Donnelly" on the back) installs onto a metal plate which must be glued to the windshield. They sell a special adhesive for this purpose, but I wanted my installation to be removable without breaking the windshield, so I decided to use silicone adhesive/caulk instead. I think this will be strong enough to hold the mirror in place while still being readily removable (using a razor blade scraper) when the fancy replacement finally arrives from MD - if and when it ever does.
PS: If anyone who has been waiting for a mirror from MD receives it, please post so here.

That is what I might end up doing Larry. I just removed the entire the mirror and didn't bother with a replacement. Some people said the chemicals could cause health risks and etc.
I do miss a mirror but my car has such a clean look without it =p
