Question Rear Brake Caliper Tool Acura TLS

What kind of rear brake caliper tool is need for the TLS? Can I use a univerals caliper tool or do need some something special from Acura Deal or Snap On? The tool is for depressing the rear caliper piston.

Just use one of your old brake shoes and a C-Clamp or if you have strong hands you can use channel locks. Just make sure you compress it evenly or the caliper might get hung and run the risk of scratching the inside sleeve.

Kragen sells a brake tool for about 9 bucks. Don't know about your car, but on my 01 accord the rear ones aren't supposed to be compressed just screwed in.

Yes, rear calipers should *not* be compressed in, but need to be screwed in with a tool. This is because of the integration of the emergency brake into the rear braking system, and is true with just about any modern car with rear disc brakes. A pair of needlenose pliers will work in a pinch but you're better off getting the adaptor to do the work. I know AutoZone stores will loan you their disc brake caliper tool (which has a bunch of adaptors for various makes/models) for FREE. You just need to put down a deposit on a credit card and then you get it credited back when you return the tool.

I know for a fact that the '02 and '03 TL-S models definitely screw in.

Correct. DOT requirements state that parking brake and hydraulic brake systems must be completely independant of each other, in case one fails you still have the other.

I know for a fact that my 99 is not screw in and I really doubt it that any TL is screw in. I know the RSX is, but that is the only acura I know about.

Do you have any pics of the rear brakes without drums (drums are for emergency brakes)

Cars with screw in calipers also have the emergency brake cable attached to the caliper itself....

Be careful just pushing or spinning the piston back in. When you do so, you run the risk of pushing sludge and debris from the cylinder back into your ABS unit. You typically want to open the bleeder valve and let the old fluid expel when you push or screw in the piston.
