Re: Trunk Lid

Is there way to adjust the way the trunk lid opens? In other words, is there a way to adjust the tension bar so that when I open the trunk, it opens all the way up?

I was thinking the same thing too...something like under the hood or similar to Audi A4's trunk.

yes there are settings in which you can pull the tension bar tighter u can either try doing it yourself with plyers or the acura dealer sells a special tool to make it easier to do. With and oem spoiler and the tension bar on the tightest setting the trunk will not open byitself but it will stay open if you put it up, so acura sells a stronger tension bar that usually comes witht he oem spoiler when you order it from an acura dealer, but i have never gotten this newer tension bar and have been perfectly happy using the fully tightened OEM one with an OEM spiler.

PS sorry if that was extremely confusing i was rushing

As others have said, there are 2 settings for the trunk torsion bars and when you buy the OEM spoiler you get 2 new ones designed to handle the additional weight of the spoiler.

When I installed the OEM spoiler, I bought the Acura tool to install and remove the torsion bars. It's less than $20 and well worth it. I don't see how Vice Grips can be used, but others have done it.

Keep in mind that the torsion bars are under a lot of tension and can be dangerous. Wear gloves, watch your fingers, etc. Also keep in mind that once you remove the torsion bars, the trunk lid will drop, so have it supported. Don't ask me how I know this.

Oh, so there is no way to make it pop all the way open like the A4's. I don't have a problem with the lid staying open, just that I wish it would open all the way up.

You can try putting the torsion bars on the stiffer setting. I don't know if that will make the trunk open all the way or not. Like NSXNEXT, I prefer the trunk lid only popping up a little.

You can install a hydrolic (like what holds your hood open) to allow it to open all the way. I installed one on mine ot hold the trunk open with the wing on. with the wing off it opened it all the way

Same here. I wouldn't want the trunk lid to shoot upward till it hits the limit of the hinges. Just my .

In a Mercedes, it's so polished it looks classy when the trunk gracefully opens. If you tried this with the TL, it would probably fly open an bounce like a Taurus.
