Ran my TL at the track for the first time

I have a 2000 Tl with only an AEM Cai and i wanted to go to the track before i install my headers next week. On thursday i went to No Problem raceway for "test n tune". My best time was my first run which was:

R/T.... .986
60 .... 2.379
330.... 6.644
1/8.... 10.132
MPH.... 69.98
1000...13.159
1/4..... 15.704
MPH.... 88.88

I turned the traction control off and just floored it. It was about 88 degrees outside and very humid. I'm a little dissapointed with this because with each run came a worse time. Could this be because my engine/Tranny was heated up? What have some other TL-P's ran at the track? Is 15.7 a horrible time for my TL? What could i run on a nice cool day when i install my headers? BTW, How did motortrend squeeze a 15.2@93.1? Any comment would be appreciated.

Reaction time has nothing to do with your E.T. ,but i still need to work on it if i ever go against other cars.

Indeed they were the stock tires. I hope to get some Type S wheels with good tires in the future.

I've always wondered this...

When you guys "floor it", do you just stomp down until the pedal hits the floor?

When I "floor it", I gradually increase pressure until it hits the floor or else I'll squeal the tires and have trouble steering (with TCS off).

actually i dont believe any racer floors it like that. tcs was right, but why didnt you speed shift your tranny. thats what its for. i personally put my left foot on the brake and rev to 4000 rpm while in first gear. smokes the front tires a little but you get a better hole shot. then red line all gears to 7000 rpm and hold on to your nuts. people who have babied their cars will make the rev limiter come on before 7000 and the rev limiter will come on about 6500rpms.

yeah, J.T, those are rough times for our car! I'm assuming, based on mag tests, that you should have had no trouble getting into the low 15's!! Next time try it with 1/4tank of gas, and your spare taken out! Turn off TCS. Also you might want to break torque it, or if you mash the accelerator, mash as far as it will go! In D5, this should force all shifts to be at redline! I have only done this 3 times with my car so far(1,400miles), and it was not at a track! Just after green lights! It felt pretty fast! It felt like it was mid 15's at worse! Good luck and keep us posted! Also, do you have a 5speed auto? this makes a .5sec difference, according to honda!

You get better times without using the sportshift.

I had about 1/4 tank of gas, and my car is a 5 speed.

speed shifting is more fun atleast for me. car shifts from 1st to 2nd whether you like it or not. then you only have one shift to 3rd and then the 1/4 mile is over. but thats just me, i guess i just trying to burn something up

getting new tires will help, getting type-s wheels might not help. stock tl-p wheels are 16" and stock tl-s wheels are 17". 16" wheels *generally* have less metal and more rubber/air than 17" wheels. less metal and more rubber = lighter. lighter wheels = better acceleration. unless the type-s wheels are lighter than tl-p ones, you're better off spending money on better tires than type-s wheels. but if your goal is to get better handling, then yes, the type-s wheels are worthwhile.
also, 1/4 mile times are a factor of weather conditions and elevation. car magazines prob do a number of passes in ideal conditions to get the times they do. so i wouldn't get too hung up over not being able to do the times they do.

Every ten degrees cooler equals 1% (not one HP) more HP due to denser air - so if you race at 48 degrees one day instead of 88
you'll have 4% more power for free or roughly nine more ponies. Have next to no gas in the tank, 91 octane or better, take everything out of the trunk. Use D3 and VSA off. Front tires should be on the verge of spinning but should not do a long (time consuming) burnout. Call it lucky if you're there on a high barometer day with a tailwind!. Good luck.
