Radar Detectors... Escort? Valentine?

I've been doing some research and it seems like this year, Escort 8500 is the best.
I know Valentine's been out there proving itself over and over but it seems like for the money Escort is better.

Now, my question is how does the Escort Solo 2 compare? Radar Detectors.com says that it is the Escort 8500 on steroids and has a much cooler blue LED screen.
Solo 2 with power cord is around $360.
Escort 8500 $300
Valentine V1 $400.

any suggestions?
is the arrow really worth the extra $100?

I just drop and shake my head when I see another V1 vs Escort thread; no offense - do a search in the forums.

They both top the charts; get whichever you like. V1 owners (like myself) will defend V1, and escort owner their units.

I dont have either, so Im not defending ne one when I say this, but from what I've read not just on this forum, but in magazines and all, V1 tops all.. hands down. Downside is that its fugly and pricey!! But quality is always xpenisive I guess.

:lol2: For the most part that is true, but I like the arrows, and I don't own a V1 yet.

I think overall the V1 is still considered the best on the market, with the Escort a close second. You can't go wrong with either one.

There are plenty of sources who rank the 8500 ahead, especially the latest batch of them...I simply got the 8500 because it was on sale at Best Buy for $279.99 and I like it's display better (though the arrows of the V1 are pure +i++s).

The Solo cordless gimmick is that to me: a gimmick. I notice it is never tested, and would assume it is not quite as capable as its corded big brother...

8500: Good bang for your buck radar. Won '04 Motortrend Radar contest over the V1 by a .01 point...only because of the price. If money is an issue, get the 8500.

That test was done by a company named something like Radar Detector Test Lab. I can't remember the name right now.

But they don't like V1 at all. I don't know what their problem is, but they always bash on the V1. Perhaps because V1 never pays them for the test unit.

In the MT test, Escort won by .1 point, but the "Value" category was out of 10 points, and they gave Escort 10/10, whereas 7/10 for V1. The value category should not have been factored in. They should have stuck with the straight-up test results for the final score. In which case, V1 would've won by about 3 points, as far as only performance is concerned.

I'm saving up for a detector (I'm relying on a 200-dollar Cobra unit right now... it works, but not that well), and I like the arrows on the V1 and its performance. I think it's worth the extra 100 bucks. One of my friends has one, and that thing kicks ass.

For me, V1 hands down.

Well..I can't argue with you there. I am very satisfied from my V1 (1.8). Sensitivity wise, it picks up much further than my 8500. It literally picked up a cop almost 2 miles away a couple nights ago. I drove for literally 5 minutes at 35mph until I saw the cop...VERY SATISFIED!

ok heres something to think of, bot pick up from over 2 miles away, some say the V1 will pick up further. what it comes down to is wheather you view it as a false alarm or not, and 2ndly most radar guns arent good for more than 1/4 mile

1/4-mile for accurate readings. But the radio waves keep travelling for miles.

Both radar detectors are extremely good, one thing that you should take in consideration is that (and you have to see the specs and test of each one to see specifics about band detection), which band is mostly use in your area, I think this will help you to make a better decision because each radar is strong in different areas.

yea, and? like i said its up to the user to determine weather or not its a false alarm or to slow down, either way with both you will have LOTS of time to do it at a long distance. my 8500 pickd up k and ka before the V1, thats why i kept the 8500 and gave the V1 away

stealth guard...

RadarDetectortest.com tested that and they said that that wax didn't do a damn thing!

I'm just wondering if the Arrows on the V1 is really that worth it? because if you think about it, when you're radar detector picks something up, you slow down, no matter if you know where it's coming from...you're natural instinct is to slow down.

I'm leaning towards the V1, but I just recently read something saying that the Escort S2 is 8500 on steroids...that's the only reason why I wanted to know more about it.

You will relearn not do instictively do that and use both the alert and the arrows.

I personally haven't used the Escort Solo2 but from what I hear..it's the best coordless. But I wouldn't trust the performance of a radar that runs on batteries. IMO, I think it's worth the extra $100 for the V1..it doesn't leave the user guessing where the radar signal is coming from. :p

That's what I thought, too, until I tried out my friend's. The arrows are worth every penny.
