Post Raced a Nissan 240SX tonight!

I was driving on the NJ parkway tonight with Joey (bdimc2001) when we saw the 240SX in front of us. He saw me coming pretty fast because we were on the fast lane and he takes off. So of course I punched it too. I was just about to pass him when there was traffic up ahead so I had to slow down and he kept going. So I told Joey that I had a feeling that he was going to wait for me down the road. And sure enough, as I got clear of the traffic, I saw him flashing his hazards. So he saw me coming and he took off again. This time there was no traffic so I punched it again. He had a good head start on me but I eventually passed him by a good car-length going close to 140 mph. I saw that he was by himself in the car. Then I had to stop by McDonalds because nature was calling. Then of course he flys right by me. Oh well, I was happy with how my TL performed.

BTW, sorry for the long post.

good kill... I love when cars have a good head start and you can still beat them, just shows how much better our TL's really are.

I once had a 96 240SX SE model, manual of course, now I have a 2000 TL, nuff said....
although liked the handling characteristics of the rear wheel drive with RS-R sport springs...240SX was supposedly the best handling car in its class...at the time, which went against the prelude, celica..etc.

I had a 1990 240SX with sports package and it did handle incredibly well! Way better than the GT-S I drove the other day. It was like a toy. Only problem with it was that it was tremendously underpowered. Claimed 0-60 was TEN SECONDS! And that was about right. No way that guy should have kept up with you at all unless he was turbo'd or something.

A little bedtime story. In my 2.4L 5 speed 240sx (140hp vs the 155 of the DOHC 1991 and up models)I actually got pulled on during a 5-3 downshift (we both did a 5-3 downshift for clarity) by my girlfriend driving a, now get this, 1990 2.2L PLYMOUTH SUNDANCE! Talk about a piss-poor day.

Now, in Japan a 200HP 240SX turbo did exist. That would have been a really fun little RWD sports car. As I recall the 240 had the tightest turning circle of any car at that time.

I'd say that the top speeds are the same for 99 and 00/01's but they may not be exact. I know for a fact that it's not 130 though. I've taken my '00 to 139 and it wanted more, but there was no more road to keep it up.

Blackshadow has a 99 model, I guess that's why his fuel didn't cut off. Man I was gonna pee in my pants when I saw him go up to that speed, that's the fastest I've ever been in a car. He was crusing at an easy 100 b4 he punched it. Man, kid like to race... Next time I'm driving my TL b4 he kills us.

My buddy has had his 2000 TL to an indicated 145. Also, the service manual makes no mention of a speed limiter. Only a rev limiter.

you guys never tried the limit of the TLs, eh? I have a 2000 TL and I've done 148MPH... and yeah, it does have the ability to do 150+ but it was crazy, I swear I'll never ever do it again...

Good story, BUT just to let you know, not all 240 are slow.... I used to have a 200SX SER, and the SR20 motor can be swap into a 240.... My 200SX ran 13.5 anytime, and I've seen 240 with a SR20DET in there, they can run 13s, anytime, anywhere..... BUT of coruse, 99.5% 240 are slow..... hehe, but if you see intercooler up front, they mostly are SR20DET,and they can be fast....

Just if you care, a SR20DET can be swapped into a 240 for around $2000 and just that can 14sec flat... with F-Intercooler, 3" piping, ECU, and stuff, LOW 13s are easy, since it's rear wheel drive.....

Hehe, but those days are gone, I am one of the 3.2 owner too.... hehe.....

Houston CL: I would like to know more about swapping a SR20DET in a 240sx cause my girl drives one but it's automatic. $2000 for a complete swap? Are you serious? the motor alone costs more than 2000 ain't it? Do you have any hook-ups, information or websites about the swap? Thanks

BTW, I was driving my girl's car once and it beat a civic SI on the freeway from 75-110, that thing has torque!

actually, according to specs '00-01 TL is drag-limited to 148mph... which means that it physically cant go faster, not enough ponies against air resistance.. if u mod it with headers and exhaust i think u squeeze out another 5mph...

Yes, it around $2000 for my frineds, and my swap.... Its really depends on ur mechanic for the installation..... the engine itself is around $1300 - 1800, depends on the qualities, roller rocker or not, from Pulsar or not, etc... you can buy the tranny as well, but you need to send ur ECU to Jim Wolf to let them tune it.
