Hey Fromaltimas.net - - I traded in My 02 Max for an 03 TL-S - so I guess I can speak on both fronts -

I posted a while back when I got mine - the 3.5 nissan engine - it just feels faaaaast. Pulls like a V-8. The 3.2 Vtec..I know it's fast becuase I have eaten a few GTPs, an 04 Max and one of yours (granted I believe it was an auto)...but the power comes on "smoother" I guess is the best way to discribe it. No neck snapping..more like "oh S*it..I'm doing 90?

Your 100% right the nissan's just feel bigger inside (the max more so than the alt) - I test drove an altima 3.5se and a Maxima SE (02 both of em) - came down to I got more for about the same price with the max (stock SE no add ons).

Now that I got my TL-S I'm just as happy..but my next car ??? I might go back Nissan way ..

the 3.5SE has too much torque steer, and the car tends to lift after 100mph

i have driven a BRAND NEW 3.5 rental a couple weeks ago...and it was sooo powerful even with the automatic...and it revs up sooooo quickly

for the auto it just has 4spd, and i found the first 3 gears are pretty strong until the 3rd redlines at 125mph...

but one thing, the altima is VERY HARD to control at spd over 100mph due to the stableness...and they only comes in H-rated tires stock, so the TL can take them after 130mph

I call BS on that one.

I drive a 2000 Maxima 5-speed with the 3.0L, my dad drives a 2000 TL. every time we race (and there have been at least 50 races) I win. We have had highway races and stoplight races. The TL doesnt have anything on any of the 3.5L Nissan cars.

torque

Oh yeah - when I stomped on my 02 Max - you could tear and arm off from the torque stear ;0 !

the TL-S has that one down - even with VSC off I can control the wheelh

You can hardly generalize as you have by basing everything on the race between your 2000 Maxima 5 speed and the 2000 TL automatic. Ofcourse the Maxima would win. Here's why:

First of all, you're pushing ~222 HP stock vs the TL's 225.

Power loss is much greater on automatic transmissions than manuals.

Your Maxima is around 250 lbs lighter than your dad's TL.

BTW, I'm sure you were talking about the TLP when you said the TL doesnt have anything on any of the 3.5L Nissan engines because I have video footage of my 2002 TLS vs a 2003 Maxima SE with intake. He gets me by 1/4 - 1/2 car off the line but by 50 mph I'm walking him. And higher end (50+mph) races I just walk him. I'll give credit where it's due and say that the Nissan 3.5 engine is great, but at best it is equal to that of the Honda J32A2.

I totaly agree with you, and yes I was talking about the TLP. I was calling BS on the fact that a TLP beat a 3.5 altima four out of four times. I guess it would be possible if the altima wasnt running when the TL started the race.

...yeah, lately... I'm starting to see more of them (3.5) lowered with wheels, and I have to admit... they made me look twice... and not a lot of cars make me look twice.

The Altima's looks don't appeal to me. I think they don't look that great. It just doesn't compare to my TL-S...I don't know...just my opinion. I couldn't imagine myself, driving an Altima(no offense to anyone). Just not me. Altima this, Maxima that, sure they are faster and what not, but as far as I'm concerned I'm not a big fan of Nissan. Anyways it is just my two cents and I'm not trying to say anything negative or positive about the Altima.

Yea the TLP story kinda sounds improbable. But who knows? Maybe the Type S badge fell off and the dude bought the TLS for price of TLP. Or it could be a factory freak.

Hmm... I don't think that's necessarily true. What makes the difference between massive torque steer and virtually no torque steer is engineering, namely when the torque kicks in. The TLS has more than enough torque for a FWD car. I'm just happy I feel it in a more usable speed rather than off the line.

I've seen some really nicely modded Altimas. The ones with non-stock grilles I like the best.

I know torque steer has to do with equal length half shafts. So yes I know it has to do with engineering.

I was just kidding with the "to have torque steer you must have torque".
Hondas have always been high horsepower, low torque cars.

Mine snaps pretty good hitting second. You certainly have to pay attention...
This is an old post, and I will say this again: Though my TL-S is clearly faster than my friend's Altima, the torque steer in the Altima is HORRENDOUS! It really is awfully problematic when getting on it in that car...
