Questions about rims

Hey Guys,

I know this post belongs in the rim/tire section but so few people go there I decided to put it here becuase people always check this forum.

Here is my scenario; I know 0 about rims and tires except that I like them. Is there anything wrong with getting rims from a store like this where they do not cost so much and they are an off brand?

http://www.wheelmax.com/Specials/specials.html

Thanks for your help. I understand you get more quality with price, but does anythign bad happen with an off brand of rim. Sorry if this is an ignorant question.

Oh and if you couldm explain what numbers like this mean (225/40/18)

225 is the tire width in mm
40 refers to 40% of the width (225x 40% mm) is the sidewall
17 is the rim size or radials i believe... forget the right word

From: PA.
Example...185/60R14 85H or 185/60HR14

185mm x .60=111mm x 2=222mm + 355.6mm(14")= 577.6mm or 22.74"

The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters, measured from sidewall to sidewall. To convert to inches, divide by 25.4 In the example above, the width is 185mm or 7.28".

The second number is the aspect ratio. This is a ratio of sidewall height to width. In the example above, the tire is 7.28" wide, multiply that by the aspect ratio to find the height of one sidewall. In this case, 185x0.60=111mm or 7.28"x0.60=4.36".

The last number is the diameter of the wheel in inches.

To figure the outside diameter of a tire, take the sidewall height and multiply by 2,(remember that the diameter is made up of 2 sidewalls, the one above the wheel, and the one below the wheel) and add the diameter of the wheel to get your answer.

You pay $700 for a set of rims, good change you'll bent them on the first bump you hit.

The rims you posted from Wheelmax are NOT Racing Hart but RH EVO. Two totally different wheel companys. The RH EVO line is a decent knock-off wheel. I had a set of RH C2 EVO and they were ok for the money, but poor offsets for our cars - 18X7.5 only comes in +42 offset.

How do you knwo they are evo? I looked at some peoples rims in this forum and they are identical. Do they just use the same naming scheme to trick people?

Are brands like Konig, Enkei, and Nakayama strong wheels. Strong meaning wont bend or wharp as easy as others?

Enkei makes the TLS rims if I remember correctly. I have a set of Konig's that are perfectly fine, I hit potholes, haven't bent yet (knock on wood). All depends on what series tire you are going with, the higher the series the more protection you have on ur rim.

As for WHELLMAX, buy from them ONLY if you know exactly what you want. They will do anything possible to make extra money and sell you a worse product. If you know exaclty what u want you should be fine. one you find the ones you want and the tires, I suggest u post it up on this forum asking to make sure you got the right fitment, because wheelmax is known to tell you that the rims/tires will fit ur car, but they never tell you that it will RUB!

Good luck
