Questions

I just pick up my TL-S yesterday and my dealer told me the following...
1. Don't worry about the first 600 miles thing.
2. Don't change the oil for the until 7500 miles.

Is this correct? Everybody got these advices from the dealer?

Yep, most just want to quote from the owners manual. Most people are changing their oil at about 1/2 that amount of miles. I just hit 4000 and I'm going to change mine, have to call the dealer and see if they have 5W-20 in yet.

Break in is good

Dude, I would definitely reccomend laying off for about 700 miles to let the little things get acquainted with each other in their new high-speed relationship. Don't worry, the car is plenty fun at <= 5500 RPM...

As for the oil, I don't remember what they said. I know you don't change it for 7500 and don't Mobil 1 it until 10,000, but I think you DO take it in at 3750 miles. The owners manual would know, however.

Some of them salespeople don't know what end is up.
You should break the car in easy for the first 600 miles no hard braking if possible just gently. Aviod hard quick starts this is how fast you can run 0-60. Try not to run at the same constant speed on the highway. Okay you can see how fast the car can get up & go a couple of times but not much for the first 1000 miles. When it comes to oil change it all depends on how soon & what type of driving you do. If you are going to be near 7500 miles in 5 months then wait for that to be your 1st change. In my case my car did not even have 500 in 3 months. If I had waited the car would have been 1yr old & still have not had an oil change. I go by my rule of 3 or 4 months or 3000 to 4000 miles to change oil.
The first 7 months of ownership of my car I drove it very short distances of less than 10 miles. This is why I got my oil changed early.

When I spoke with the service department, they recommended 3500-4000 miles for the oil change (not too concerned about the time interval, however). As far as break-in, I'd go with the manual's recommendation of 600-1000 miles before you "drive spiritedly" (still not sure that's a real word).

Heh.....tomorrow will be my 3rd month anniversary and it already has around 8,250 miles on her. Thats around 2,750 miles a month and at this rate will be 33,000 miles a year. I figure I'll be reaching the end of my 100,000 mile extended warranty in 3 years. I've already gotten 2 oil changes, so I guess I'm the guy to keep you guys posted on extremely high milage reliability.

Thanks to all that answer. I guess I should follow FTM-1 suggestion. I don't think I will be putting in 7500 miles very soon. I could be wrong.
