Question Question on SS

Does the car have to be at a standstill before moving from D5 to SS, or can it be moved while driving? I've tried to locate this information in the owner's manual, but can't find it. Most of my former cars were manual transmission, so I'm still somewhat lost using SS. I've only been switching from one to the other when stopped.

Thanks for the help.

You can move from D5 to SS at any time. SS will identify the gear you were in at the time you made the change from D5.

Darla you can switch into Sport-Shift at anytime or back to D5 at anytime. The computer will not let you do anything bad.
The car will be in the correct gear when you switch from D5 to Sport-Shift. The car will down shift to 1st gear by itself when it comes to a near stop. On the 2000TL & up the car will up-shift to 2nd itself you take over then. The only time I down shift into 2nd gear is when I want to accelerate. This is if you slow for traffic & don't come to a stop. When you are like on the highway & the car is in 5th gear & you come to a hill you can down shift into 4th for extra power to go up it. You can get the hang of it if you change from D5 at different speeds & see what gear the car is in. The manual has the recommended shift speeds. You just have to forget about the clutch.

Exactly. Personally I like shifting to 3rd gear when I really want to pass someone on the freeway. These are the two main gears to remember if you really want to do some agressive freeway driving.

3rd Gear = 60-90 MPH
4rth Gear = 90-120 MPH

That would be some coincidence if we ever did run into each other on 880. But if we ever do, I'm the de-badged acura with white water marks all over his damn car. Did I ever mention how much I hate San Jose water? As far as 880 goes, Berkeley to Milpitas everyday 9am-10am & nights (hours are so jacked I dont even know when I get off work myself. All I know is that the later in the day it is, the faster I could go. (unless I have a date of course...then my ass is in SF by 7pm!)

does the SS automatically adapt itself to the gears when i start to slow down..for example, let's say i'm going 40, i don't push any peddal and let the car go down to 30, and then step on the gas, will it adapt to the proper gear without me shifting?

The car is not in neutral before you use the sport-shift. When it is D5 automatic drive mode you change over to sport-shift from that. The car is then in the SS mode & if you are in motion the car will be in the correct gear when you change into the SS mode from automatic. IF you put the car in SS from stop or it will be in 1st gear you when you accellerate it will change into 2nd by itself. You then shift from 3rd to 5th.
Your other question was like comming to a redlight you shift to neutral. With sport shift you would not do anything the SS will put the car in 1st gear when you come to a stop from any speed.

No the SS won't automatically up-shift for you beyond the 1st-to-2nd gear auto-shift. BUT WAIT, there is a less well known feature in the TL-S that you may not know about that will automagically shift for you... [/B]It's called... an automatic...[/B]

That's funny how some people want the SS shift to behave as an automatic.

I guess I'm at the other end of the spectrum - I keep looking for the clutch pedal and stamping my foot to the floor (between the brake and foot rest).

If the floorboards hold up, I'll get the hang of SS yet.

Thanks to all for your advice!!!
