Talking Question! Found a TL~!

What's up people?!?!?!!? Well...my good friend city001 found a lovely white one yesterday for me! It was located at Acura of the Desert...about an hour and a half from Los Angeles area. Anyway, I gave them a call. They told me it had no NAVI!!! So I said I'm not interested in it no more. BUT..oh oh! They found a beautiful '01 WDP TL w/NAVI hiding in the back of their dealership for about a year. It has 4,000 miles, only driven by sales people, taken on test drives, basically a demo car. And if I was to take it...it would be considered a brand new car, since it never left the dealership.

Okay....let's get down to the nitty gitty! Since it's like buying a brand new car, I have all the goodies. So I'm not too worried if the engine fails due to ugly break-in. And they we're soo cool, he was willing to fill up the tank of my Accord just for driving there! Anyway. Dealer is asking for $35,000!!!!!! So I'm like! I can buy a brand new '02 TL-S for around that price!! so then I ask why so much for a demo car? He said he has the OEM underbody kit, burlwood shiftknob, bling bling chrome rims, and gold package.

So I'm like okay! I will not be needing the rims and gold package. (I know the rims are the one making the price very very high) He said no problem...we can talk it all out. I have an appointment with them this Saturday, and if everything goes out OK!! I'll be cruising home on the 10 FWY with my new pearl baby.

So My question is..is it worth it? Keep in mind....I'm a person that likes to modify things, I'm going to put the HKS Prototype Turbo into that car. My god sister said hell no, cause it was demo, they prob. treat it like sh!t..Second, how much did you guys pay for your 99-01 TL's with NAVi and Underbody kit?? So I can factor in the price of it new and deducted the 4K miles and the fact that it's a DEMO.

Thanks alot people!!! I Just LOVE THIS BOARD!!!!! :p

run away from demo and dealer beaten.... er... I mean dealer driven cars.

4000 miles is NOT A NEW CAR and there is NO way it should be treated as such.

They also seem a little too desperate to get you down there, they must see "sucker" written on your forehead to pay for your gas to go there.

I would say: STAY AWAY FROM THAT CAR!

I'm pretty sure most people on this board will agree.

I've had good luck buying a demo in the past ('93 Acura Vigor), but it all depends on the dealer. The dealer I bought from also extended the warranty to make up for the miles that were already on it.

With that said, there is NO WAY that I would pay $35K for that car. I don't care what it comes with. Especially when you consider that in terms of model years, the car is almost two years old!

I just looked up retail price on a '01 TL with premium wheels and a spoiler and it gave me a $30K price, you may want to add a little more for the body kit, but let's face it add a little more and you can buy a brand new one!

I'm also a little suspicious that they "had one in the back that they forgot about'. Puh-lease! Most dealers have had no problems selling every TL they've had. Even remaining '01s when the new '02s came out. The fact that they forgot about a $30K car seems ridiculous to me.

Be very careful, and if you're interested, negotiate. DON'T PAY $35K!!

Yeah...I kinda figured to stay away. But seriously, there is no more WDP with Navi with low miles around anywhere!!! well...i'm going to check out the car ....in and out..drive it..etc. But I'm thinking of asking for extended warranty cause the fact that it has miles on it..and it was a test drive car...I don't know...this is my only chance. If they are desperate to sell..then they will be able to accept a lower price. Should I ask for a written contract that if anything happenes to the drivetrain due to abuse during break-in, I can get it fixed for free?

Man..I don't know what to do. There is no more other ones in So Cali... How much should I ask for it if he asks how much I want it for?

unlessss!!!! goaub, wanna sell me ur WDP?!?!!?!?

How's work George? hehe...yeah...you have to help me big time...your my main man now. But how do we do the talk over the phone? Let me know how you wanna do it. And do we just do the deal over the phone? and when I go pick up the car...i just hand him my Accord? with whatever g's extra for downpayment? Call me tonight. It's annoying knowing that this is a demo car...and the rarity of the damn white pearl w/ navi.

Stay away from demo cars!

You seem to be really eager to get into a TL, which is bad for you, and just perfect for the dealer. Remember, you may regret your decision once you've had the car for a year or two.

The whole deal sounds suspicious to me. That one car that they "forgot", the exorbitant price, the fact that it has only 4000 miles even after being driven by salespeople and used as a demo vehicle...

Keep looking! There are other cars out there. This one sounds like a lemon on wheels.

that price sounds good anyway george! haha!

Well, I don't know what to do. Most of you say to stay away from this Demo. I think I should...just wait a little longer.. O_O I can't take it. Ah well.....

I agree with everybody here. STAY AWAY FROM IT! This is a major investment that you can't afford a mistake.
Just keep looking around and you will find another one. I know you're eager to get it but patience will be rewarded.

BTW, demo cars =

Yeah...so I bet a demo is a big no no! hehe!

AzNTL, Yeah, I know I can get a brand new TL-S for that price...but I think I'll just wait for another '01. I'm not a big fan of the BIG grill nor the headlights.

if you have the time and don't mind the distance, then drive out there and take a look at the car. check it outand give it a spin. if you want, talk money with the guy. heck, it you get $25 OTD then i guess you got yourself a car! buy the extended warranty too.

personally, i would probably wait out for another tl.

what city or location is that dealership? if you are going, what day and time?

well, with the way i test drove the TL and also what other people would do to test drive cars, i would never ever get any demo cars..... remember, people drive hard on those cars from day 1 and 4 miles on it, without breaking it in at all.

I second that. I did it...and soon enough I got the same exact TLS as a loaner when I was getting my bodykit installed and I did it again!

My GF and I just got a brand spanking new (only had 8 miles on the ODO) '02 TL w/ Nav (no Type-S) for $500 over invoice. We got it from Santa Monica Acura. Given that you are willing to spend $35K for the demo car, you can get all the other stuff (body kit, bling bling stuff, etc) under your $35K cap.

I agree, this car is not worth investing in and taking a chance unless you get it for like real real dirt cheap. $26k sounds good to me. Pick up the extended warranty too.

This is bad when shopping for any car! The fact that it is a demo they should be giving you discounts.
Once the dealer sees that you absolutely want the car, its over, he got you.
Walk away, trust me. If they really want to sell the car they will lower the price.

2001 TL for $35000...No Way!
Here's the deal. A new TL-S with nav is $34k. And while the bodykit and Chrome Rims cost $$ they do not add any market value to used cars, so you should not give them more than 30-40 cents on the dollar.
*note* a demo is a used car regardless of whether it has 400 or 4000 miles.

Essentially ur looking at a 1yr old TL w/nav which should sell for about $28k. The Bodykit and Rims sould be another $3-4k. Since u shouldn't pay more than about 30cents on the dollar for those, that means add about $1000-1500 onto the $28k value of the car. This means that you shouldn't pay more than around $29000-$29,500 for the car. No ifs ands or butts.
Be strong and don't cave no matter what they say.
