Question on Brake Fluid

Last May I bled my brakes and was planning on doing so again. I went to the closest Acura dealer last time, and I bought genuine Acura brake fluid. I was wondering what everyone uses in their TL's. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated

Brake fluid is one of the fluids for Hondas that you don't really need to use Honda stuff.

its a smart plan to flush the brake fluid every year to prevent hygroscopic destruction of expensive brake parts

DOT4 spec for normal users, get 2 qts any brand, regular or synthetic its your choice
takes approx 1.5 for a very good job at getting all the old fluid out

dot 5.1 for racers- special order, expensive and gives better pedal feel and track day performance

reminder! special TL bleed order is LF =driver front, then clockwise= LF RF RR LR
its important to do it that way

I just went to a local auto supply shop and bought Prestone Dot 3 synthetic brake fluid.

When bleeding the brakes, bleed all brake lines LF, RF, RR, LR in that order. Make sure all the bubbles are out before screwing the bleeder screw back in.

There is also a brake bleeder kit at Harbor Freight Tools that makes it an easy one person job.

I have been using ATE brake fluid. They have it in blue and amber. Simplifies bleeding them if you switch colors. Very easy to know when each wheel is bleed with new fluid.

Ate blue brake fluid is unfortunately a thing of the past. The federal govt. forced Ate to pull it off the market last august. I guess the law mandating clear or amber as the only approved colors goes back quite a ways, but they finally started to enforce it. I really liked being able to see the color change when flushing, as did a lot of racers. I noticed the cans have had a warning label specifying off road use due to non-conforming color for a while, but I never heard a word about it until I called my supplier to restock. I realize this is trivial, but it pisses me off that our nanny govt. has to micro-manage stuff like this.

A friend of mine auto crosses a lot and swears by Castrol LMA (Low Moisture Activity) fluid. Its not very expensive (my local Pep Boys has it) and seems to prevent moisture intrusion a little better than other brands.
