question about TL-S tranny?
For the 2003 model year TL-S: are there problems with this model year? I'm pretty sure that the CL-S/TL-S had tranny problems before 2003(?). Anybody with any comments or answers please post. I need as much info as I can get on this.
it depends on when it was made..the earlier tls had the same have the same faulty trannies as the 2002<....the newer oines sopossely have the corrected trannies...so it it was was in 03...you should be good...i think the exact date is october 02 and greater have the fixed trannies..not sure tho
I'm new here and also considering a new TL-S, and the tranny & brake problem does concern me. I hear that Acura is offering some nice discounts on the TL to move them off the lots to make way for the 04s. That got me into the showroom recently. However, while there I was very impressed with the TSX. A smaller car, 4 cyl but very peppy. I'm going to the dealer this Friday and take the 2 for test drives. Will let you know my impressions.

MY TL-S (2002) lost its tranny after 30K miles. The new one was going along fine and then the computer glitched, giving the impression the tranny had failed yet again. It was horrible. Acura then reset the computer and it is driving OK again. Still, I am not confident in the remedy Acura has applied to fix the tranny. I would be cautious in buying the 2003 model of ANY month. Besides, the 2004 TL will be completely redesigned so unless you are getting a price several thousand below invoice, I wouldn't buy a 2003 because in about 2 months they will depreciate by several thousand when the 2004 comes out.
well, my sister isn't really worried about depreciation, she's more concerned with buying a great car for a great price; especially since the 2004's are coming out. The only thing that's holding her back is the tranny problem. I have a 2003 CL-S, and so far the tranny has held up. I've heard of no problems from people on either forum CL/TL, about problems with the '03 tranny. But maybe it's too early to tell? I need more comments from people with 2003 knowledge or experience please. thanks.
As long as you get a tl made after Oct '02 you should be OK. I would be very leery of getting an '04 TL TSX or any new car that was just redesigned. They often have significant problems and rarely discount the prices. If you want the new TL wait at least 1 year. I don't think you will have a problem (unless you beat the s### out of it) with an '03.
The TLS is a great car. My wife and I both just bought one each. We love them and got them for 1000 under invoice.

with or without navi? so how much?
Hello. I was wondering among the TL-S owners out there, if anyone was aware of the significant drop in the Kelly Blue Book value of their vehicles given the onslaught of transmission woes Acura is experiencing. Am I the only one who is driving on their 3rd transmission out there? I love the car but I hate knowing that the value has dropped nearly $4k since last month!
For those of you who are interested in the tranny problem, I highly recommend you read this:
LINK
It has a good summary of Acura's findings from the tranny problem. The key is the 2->3 and 3->2 shifts.
There is also a list of modifications they made to the transmission to prevent this problem. If you car was manufactured after February of 2003 (you can check on your driver's side door, inside there's a stick with the manufacture date) then you have all of the mods made to the transmission that we know of (ones made after February 2003 wouldnt be documented in what EricL was able to provide).
Anyways, after modification #2 made on May 3rd, 2002 the transmissions should not suffer nearly as many problems as the 2002 models. If you have all of the modifications you really shouldnt see this problem at all (unless maybe you're using sportshift to constantly cause shifts to and from 3rd gear and trying to burn up that 3rd gear clutch pack).
