Post question about spoiler and intake

I am looking to get a spoiler but cann't decide if I should get it in the painted or unpainted version. I have asked around the local body shops and the total price for getting the unpainted version and having them paint it and install it would be $50-$75 cheap than buying it already painted and having it professionally installed. Anyone with advice? Has anyone had their spoiler painted and does it match with the oem paint? Secondly, I am looking to get a AEM intake. Whats the difference between the 2 AEM intakes? Do I have to put a hole in one of my front wheel wells for the Cold Air Intake? What are the hp gains? Thanks

I can't answer your spoiler question, but perhaps I can help out with the AEM. The Short Ram is basically a "filter on a stick". It's a replacement air intake tube and air filter. It draws air from approximately the same area where the stock airbox is mounted.

The Cold Air Intake draws air from in front of the driver's front wheel. You don't have to cut anything to install it, but the process is a bit more involved. You have to remove the front bumper and then remove the intake resonator as it takes up the space where the air filter will be mounted.

Neither are hard to install, but the Cold Air system does take a bit longer. It took me about an hour and 20 minutes to install mine.

Thanks. I think I am going to go with the short ram intake. People seem to like it.

For the money you're better off going with the Cold Air Intake (CAI). It's probably around $50 difference but it's worth it for the performance gains. Check out www.xephyrperformance.com for an intake. If you're worried about water you don't need to b/c this one has the by-pass filter built in and it's about $60 cheaper then the AEM....

Hey, JEFF/BOSTON I bought the unpainted spoiler from this site for 154.00 with shipping. The spoiler arrived on the day Tim said it would 5-17.....Took my car to the body shop on 5-21. Will be ready for pick up today 5-23. I'll let you know how it turns out and if it was worth it....

Hey thanks, keep me updated. The body shop I am going to has done paint work for me before and it always seemed to match. I am probably going to go with the unpainted spoiler and save myself some money.

Hey JEFF/BOSTON returned from the body shop with my TL-S....It looks great! Total cost out of pocket. 354.00. About half of what the dealership would prob. charge you.

BTW-If you have the Aegean Blue Pearl like I do, plan for a delay....The color is so new the body shop will have to track down the color code(its not out yet). The color code will allow for a perfect match in paint.

Good luck, Frank
