Question about integrity of a dealership

Alright, so guys here goes:

When I first bought my TL when I traded in my Scion xB 2 months ago, I knew nothing of the glass transmission our cars sadly are stricken with. After reading up on this forum about signing up for the ownerlink and stuff (which I did) and looking at my vehicles records, it seems I am on a first transmission at 99k miles. It does have the oil jet system installed, so it's obviously been put into the dealership database as being fixed.

The CD player was originally jammed when I first bought the car which led me to believe the stock 6-disc in dash player was complete junk. Sadly I still have it because fundage is an issue. After diggin a bit more, I found out about the whole fiasco with the transmissions in these cars (yes, only a small % actually see the problem). When I went to pick up my car, the salesman acted as if he never heard of the problem before, and we went to the service department. The service manager acted as if this situation has never occurred, yet my car shows in the ownerlink that is has been fitted with the oil jet system which is supposed to relief the stress of the second gear. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

I've recently noticed that my transmission likes to "jump, and or, miss gears" when it feels the need to. Fully warmed up, on the highway. Would this be a sign of the transmission failling, or the need to swap out the fluid? I was assured that all necessary fluids were replaced before time of sale, so that everything was fresh, down to the power steering fluid.

Most recently, today, driving to work, the car would NOT shift out of 3rd gear while merging onto the highway. I try my best to not mash the pedal in, and typically it takes me a minute or two to get up to 60mph (this is also so I can conserve gas, as this car isn't as fuel efficient as all the other cars I've owned, combined).

Now, should I trust this dealership in working on my car, and telling them the symptoms? I have a feeling I will be told that everything is fine and the car will be handed back to me in the same condition, or should I go to the only other dealership in my area? They are both within 6 miles of me, and the next one after that isn't for 25 miles; you'd think living in a big city there'd be more Acura dealerships, but there aren't, at least, not to my, or Google's knowledge.

Please help me figure this out, I don't want to have traded in a car with less than 40k miles for one that's going to stop working for me.

Thanks in advance.

If you are missing gears take it in for sure. You did not mention year of the car. If your 00-02 the tranny should be warrantied up to 109,000 miles. If its broke they have to get you a new one under the warranty. At the very least take it in so its at least documented that you have concerns. If you don't think your dealership is being straight with you then yes go to the other dealership. Any acura dealership is supposed to replace the tranny for you if its still under warranty. If your car is 03 check owner link to make sure your car is under the extended warranty as some 03s did not get the extended warranty.

If I was in your situation I wouldn't want that dealership to work on my car simply because they lied to me about problems related to the car.

Did you get your car and Dave Mungenest? If so we should talk...

They just replaced my transmission with no problem, but there have been other issues that make me question them.

+1 and most Acuras are covered til 109K. Are you still around the 99K that was on it when you bought it? I would try and talk to Acura (not the dealership but the 800 number you can call) and see if they can goodwill you one since you just bought the car and it is already starting to fail, can't hurt to try.

IIRC, isn't it 7 yrs 9 months or 109,000 miles, whichever comes first?

If it's under warranty, the dealer should have no problem doing the work - they get paid by Acura.

OTOH, if you don't trust the dealer, go elsewhere if you can.

Just call the other dealer in town- if they dont sound good- call thje out of town

Ask to speak with the service MANAGER not a service WRITER

Tell him/her you are having shifting problems, you belong to acurazine.com and you're not corfortable with the other place in town
They have heard this a million times before about the other place

If they say- let me check your VIN, yes your covered- can you drive it?
or do you need the tow truck- thats included no charge if you need it

Most dealers do at least 1 a week or more- service writers are there for profit-
service MANAGERS are there to take care of things
I always take donuts with me when talking to the dealer guys

I figured my name would throw it out there, but that is ok, helpful everyone is. My car is a 2002. The car has a little over 99k on it now and I was planning a seafoam when I did the 105k maintenance.

Yes, I did get mine from Dave Mungenast. I did not feel it would be appropriate to throw their name out there, but since it's there, might as well say it. Excellent service when purchasing the car, actually, the best I've ever had. When they took a week to fix the radio (a lot of cars go through their dealership) they put me in an 08 TL that had Navi. Boy that made me want the navigation system, but unless someone has a spare one to give away, it won't happen any time soon. Also, loved the new one to death, but sadly not able to afford that high of a payment.

I will contact the other dealership and see what they say. I wouldn't mind getting a new transmission over the 3 years I plan to keep the vehicle. I'm just a little upset that the #1 dealership in my area might have some shady business practices.

We dont all bother to check the posters name-
many people wondered what I was bringing to a meet! see my name!!

So help us out and say what model miles year when you need help-

It is approved by azine to post names of dealers who took care of you -or who didnt,
thats how we help each other use or avoid a place.

You can talk with the GENERAL MANAGER at the first dealer and tell them whats happened
It may be a case of- service never admits anything wrong with any car- sales would get pissed off if every customer was an informed consumer
Or "the new guy you talked with" cannot be expected to know every car and its problems
If you talk with the Head Technician and he says 5 a month,- we dont care about CAI or tein shocks- as long as you dont put a turbo or supercharger or nitrous- we dont hassle you because the trans is a known problem.

Talk with Managers- they need to know whats going on- could all have been innocent-
or not-

Dealerships are businesses. People run their businesses differently. Don't "trust" someone simply because they seem nice and say nice things to you. I suppose that doesnt make you a good consumer.

(assuming you purchased a CPO vehicle) Take the work to another dealership unless your extended warranty explicitly states work must be performed at a specific one. If you read the fine print, you wouldnt have to turn to an anonymous web forum for support.

Maybe we'd all be "good consumers" if people who were "good consumers" would share their information than just tell others they're "not good consumers." I'm just misinformed of the business practices of Honda/Acura. I've nothing but great things to say about all the Toyota dealerships I've been to, when work was necessary on my Toyota products. Even stuff that was out of warranty was taken care of. Since the dealership I purchased my car from is #1, and supposedly Acura stands by the whole aspect of customer satisfaction is #1, I thought maybe this place was full of "good businessman."

Anyways, I will contact the general manager next week and see what that person says. If they are not to my satisfaction, I can go to the other dealership. If THAT doesn't work out, I have the option of taking my car to any Acura dealership of my choice, all across the country.

Thanks to all for the HELPFUL information.

I have had my Acuras serviced at Mungenast for 10 years and have always received good service. They are expensive, though. For some reason, the service over the last year or so has been a tiny bit off compared what it used to be, just little things, though, that aren't worth mentioning. Let's just say that if I used to be 100% satisfied with the level of service, now I am 98% satisfied. They do have a very good rep., win Acura service awards every year, always call to follow up on your service, etc. No real complaints except for their prices.
