Question about car pricing?
Hello Acuraziners!
I am planning in buying a new car but when I got a quote for my trade in, the dealer was offering around $6500 for my car. I was wondering if that was a fair price?
My car description:
2002 Acura TL-S
Mileage - 79000
2nd Tranny
Scratched bumper and little scratches here and there. ( none made by me )
AEM CAI (dont have stock intake step mom threw it away )
H&R Springs (also have stock springs)
Pioneer Single din flip out monitor (also have stock headunit)
Clean Title
I was also wondering if I should sell it privately? Is $10000 obo asking to much? Thanks in advance!

yeah..thats low IMO also...youre never going to get what its worth from a stealership though..private sale FTW. (That price is pretty good for private sale)
Good luck

The highest price I've seen at the auction for your car is $7300 with 50,000 miles rated in average condition. Actually scratch that I just saw another one go through with 56,000 miles rated in above average condition that sold for $8900. The way the "stealership" looks at it if they actually wanted a car like yours they could go to the auction and get one for around the price and mileage stated above. So why should they give you $10,000 for a car?
Of course you can always sell it privately and get more but depending on how quickly and easily the sale goes it can be more of a headache so that's why most people just take the small loss.

It amazes me when people post these types of questions that they don't know they're getting less than market for their cars on trade in.
Check the kbb and see what they rate your car at. If you're getting wholesale for it on trade in you know. No one's paying full pop for used cars on trade it. Have you seen the auto market lately?
Sell it privately, and use the cash to buy a car. Trade ins are a service the dealerships offer, they need to make money at it.
But personally, I'd sell the car, and buy a 1-2 yearold model. Dealership used car prices can normally come down about 20% and they'll offer you a 'new car experience'. I find when they come down 20% you're almost paying private sale pricing. Of course when it's a cert. use acura you get certain perks, like new, or near new tires/brakes.
You can also go back normally within 30 days for anything major and on the last honda I helped a friend buy they offered an extra 2 years on the warranty. Civic was listed at $19,599. Paid $16,350 before taxes. They even fixed a dent on the hood at no charge. It's really hard to get that kind of service in a private sale.
