Question about air conditioning....

Hi everybody I'm not really that big of a car person, but I just had one quick question....

I have a 2002 Acura TL... when the climate control system is set to "auto" is the air conditioning on or off? i know that if you hit the ac button it'll say "ac off" or "ac on" but what if it just says "auto" and nothing else? my guess is that ac is automatically on, but i just wanted to make sure.

thanks!

Darby, it is automatically on/off adjusting to the temperature set. If you hit the a/c button, the auto mode will automatically disabled and the a/c will be constantly on (or off).

When in auto, the climate control will constantly cycle the A/C to remove humidity. Even if the interior temp is set ABOVE the outside temp. In this case it will open the vent door to blend in heated air in order to raise the temperature.

I read this either on the Acura website or in the manual. It does this to remove the humidity from the air (de-humidify). This holds true until the outside temperature drops below freezing. Once the outside air drops below freezing, it (the air) begins to lose it's ability to retain moisture, so it is no longer necessary to dehumidify it.
